Gun Rest

Hi- hoping you all might assist me in a gun rest purchase. I am interested in a full gun rest (as opposed to just a front or separate front and rear rests). I will be using it primarily for a Springfield .30-06. I have been looking at the Caldwell Lead Sled but have read an occasional report of gun rests which are designed to eliminate or reduce felt recoil will cause undue stress to the rifle- upsetting the scope or worse.

Is there any truth to those reports and, if so, what would the best rest be which provides the best control over adjusting windage and elevation while being made to be fired traditionally- with the gun's recoil pad resting directly on the shoulder while firing....

Thanks!
