Gun-toting Texans can relax about one concern this hurricane season: The state has no plans to disarm residents in the wake of a big storm.

A questioner got big applause at Brazoria County's hurricane preparedness conference Thursday when he asked whether law enforcement agencies were going to demand that private citizens surrender their firearms after a storm.

Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Randy Jones said taking firearms from citizens has never been part of a state plan.

He recalled going to Bridge City after that town was slammed by Hurricane Rita in September and seeing a homemade sign that read, "You loot, we shoot."

Residents conducted armed patrols to make sure that homes and businesses were secure, he said. State troopers going into the damaged area assisted the patrols, rather than stopping them.

"The locals know much better who belongs in their neighborhoods than a DPS trooper who may be from as far away as Lubbock," Jones said. "If you're guarding your neighbor's home with a shotgun, nobody is going to bother you.

"Of course, if you're walking out of his house with a television set, then we're going to arrest you," he concluded, drawing a big laugh.

For Sure.... The law enforcement guys spent 24/7 here patrolling the streets to keep the citizens safe instead of hassling folks in the piney woods of SE Texas. The NOPD could take a few lessons.

The only time I have been in California is on official US military business..had to go. New Facist York and KommieFornia are two places that I will not voluntarily go.

Can't say as I blame 'em, Harley. They're doing far better than the California "suburbs" of Oregon, Washington, Colorado and about 6 other foreign countries.

Meantime, I don't see Texicans moving in droves to CA. Weather just ain't enough, for some, to put up with Blind Socialism...even Chuck Norris moved back to where he could be free.

Perhaps they know something you and I don't?.

As a born and bred Texan living in the PRK, it sucks. Mind you, I've been here since 86 via USAF, and we tried to do something then about the incremental changes happening, to no avail with the ninth circuit judge. Just ck out Prop 186, sponsored by then Governor Pete Wilson, we gotta get him back in office LOL.

Talking to the lady at the tourist center. Mentioned I really liked the music and history and other things about Texas.
She noticed my license plate.
She said "you are welcome to visit, but please don't move here". I laughed.

Then she told me she was very serious. Thought that Texas might want to secede again. I laughed even more.

She explained that the Government is doing nothing to help with the immigration problem. That it was a major factor.
She was not picking on Californians themselves, just the overall influx of people would really change their way of life.
I reminded her President Bush was from her state, she mentioned he was an immigrant. LOL

Movie "Giant" comes to mind. More people, more change, it is a rule.
I believe she should read more history about Texas and the hardships they had during the civil war and after.
I don't think they really want to go there (seceding). Just talking to keep others out.
