HELP! unknown handgun... attic find.
Hi All;
A friend found a handgun when cleaning out a recently deceased relatives house. He is looking for info on it. It a single shot and says "Oklahoma" on one side and 4.5 cal. On the other side it says "mondial" and "made in Italy". On one side there is a hole with the letters LOIO around it. It is almost exactly 12" long and black with grips that appear to be plastic. It was owned by someone who was in the Canadian Armed Services and may be an issue from them? Can anyone provide any info on this? It si a family keepsake for my friend and he would much appreciate it! Matt |

Looks like a breakbarrel airgun. I think 4.5mm is .20 caliber, which means you'd need to use pellets commonly sold for Beeman air rifles.

Shows how much we know about guns. I think you are right... after looking more closely, I think it IS an airgun!

It is indeed an air gun, but mtbkr was thinking too hard. 4.5mm is .177, the most common pellet caliber. If the barrel is rifled, and it probably is, use .177 lead pellets, NOT steel BBs.

What is "rifled"? How can I tell? Looking down the barrel it looks smooth.

Then it is a smooth bore.
Rifling would look like the barrel is twisted from inside the American translation for the letters OLIO around the hole is OIL It is an antique Look Here or here

Thanks to everyone for all the halp so far! How should this gun be maintained? If that hole is for oil... should some be added? what kind of oil? how often? How is it applied?

You can use any light oil.
Sewing machine oil works well and comes in a handy can with a pop up spout. Don't use WD 40 Put a couple of drops in the hole, firing it will disperse the oil down the barrel. Wipe the outside down with a light coat to prevent surface rust Put a little on any pivot points for added lubrication
