Decking out an AR10t
I have just purchased an ar10t and I am about to deck it out.
I can only afford one rifle and will be using this rifle for long range (around 500 yd) target shooting, the objective is to have the gun accurate at distance but be able to acquire targets quickly inside the 150 yd marker. Secondly I will be reloading my own ammunition. Please let me know if you see any glaring mistakes in my set up of this rifle. The order is going out as follows: Rifle Tactical Pivoting QR Vertical Foregrip with Integrated Adjustable Bipod - Gen 2 - T-PodG2PR http://www.themakogroup.com/product_p/t-podg2pr.htm $167.10 Sniper Stock for M16/SR25/M110/AR-15/AR-10 - SSR25 http://www.opticsplanet.com/s/sniper...10%20-%20ssr25 $182.49 3-point/Single-Point CQB Sling - SL-2 http://www.opticsplanet.com/mako-gro...fle-sling.html $21.99 Dewey Complete AR-10 (.308/7.62mm) Cleaning Kit - 36 Inch Rod https://www.deweyrods.com/cart/index...product_id=509 $110.00 Optics Warne RAMP Rapid Acquisition Multi-sight Platform Tactical Scope Mount http://www.opticsplanet.com/warne-ra...ope-mount.html $169.59 Zeiss HD5 Conquest 5-25X50 Rifle Scope LK RZ1000 http://www.opticsplanet.com/zeiss-hd...fle-scope.html $1074.99 Burris FastFire III Red-Dot Reflex Sight,4 MOA Dot Reticle http://www.opticsplanet.com/burris-f...nny-mount.html $239.00 Reloading 1000 Winchester Reloading Brass 308 Sierra MatchKing Bullets 30 Caliber 168 Grain Hollow Point Boat Tail RCBS Competition Die Set .308 Winchester http://www.opticsplanet.com/rcbs-com...ter-37801.html $112.99 Last edited by Ridemhard; May 15, 2013 at 07:16 AM. 1) I'm not familiar with that specific sling, but 3-point slings in general are cumbersome and annoying to me; I've started using 2-point slings and I find you get a simpler, more quickly-adjustable sling that still places the rifle exactly where you want it. I like the VTAC padded 2-point adjustable sling. http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/VTAC-...yote%20tan.htm I set it up with the back part looped around the top section of the stock (the QD attachments on stocks are almost always too low), and VTAC has an adaptor if you don't have any good sling attachment points: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/272...-adapter-nylon For the front I usually use an HK hook that clips in to a MagPul Rail Sling Attachment that's on the top of the rail just behind the rear sight. If you want to make this sling a one-point (which I personally don't like, especially for a long, heavy rifle), just get another HK clip and clip both ends to the same spot near the receiver extension. 2) I'm a big fan of 45-degree offset sights, but I'm always wary of using a battery-powered electronic sight as a back-up. If your purpose for the rifle is soley hunting and target shooting, then the Burris Fastfire is a good choice for a close-range back-up. But for 100% back-up reliability I'd prefer 45-degree offset iron sights like the ones from Dueck Defense: http://www.dueckdefense.com/gun-sight-specs.asp
