colt commando revolver

i have a colt commando revolver that is nickle plated with a 4" barrel what is it worth

WW II kinda Commando or the "mfg during the strike by management on the line so the finish is real basic" kinda Commando?

Cause nickle plating the first would certainly lower value. The latter...?

Since it is a 4" barrel, it would be the WWII period Commando. The nickel plating is not factory, so the value would be diminished. I would say a specimen in VG-EX condition with nickel plating would be $275-$350, depending on what someone would pay for an unusual "shooter". HAd it not been plated, the same condition gun would be $500-$700, based on what has changed hands lately.

I agree with Sharps.

I checked gunbroker. Seems like sellers are asking between $750 and $1500 for original condition Commandos but many of them don't get bid on. Sellers are trying to capitalize on the Colt name but the Commandos are not highly sought after.

The only sold auction went for $585 but none of these are nickel plated. I think they were all parkerized during wartime to conserve resources.

Somebody probably nickel plated your gun to keep it from rusting as the parkerized finish is prone to do.

2011-02-28 20.30.07.jpgi was wrong the colt commando i have is nickle plated and yes it was done in the factory all working parts inside are stainless i contacted colt and they told me it was made that way serial is 3897#

yes the gun was made in 1943

Stainless steel was not used by any gun maker (S&W) until the 60's. Colt didn't use it until the 80's.

The Commandos of the 40's were basically an Official Police revolver with a Parkerized finish. These were sold to the government and mostly used by security guards and the like at defense plants here in the States.

If the Colt nickeled DA revolver is in good/very good condition, you should get a lot of $$$ for it.
Used revolver prices I've seen both in local gun shops & online sources have pushed way, way up in the last 24mo or so.

Im not a big fan of buying used DA revolvers in general. I've owned 2, a Taurus model 82 .38spl & a S&W model 19 .357magnum that were less than great.

If it was indeed nickel plated by the factory, you need a letter from Colt. Otherwise, you're not going to get very much for it, the general assumption will be that it was plated afterward and is not in original condition.

And there is no way the parts inside are stainless. Not sure why anyone would plate internal parts, but that is one possibility- or the parts are probably just unblued and oiled plain steel.

Aftermarket nickel on a Commando? I'd think about $250-$275 is a fair price.
