So I'm planning this AR to be a fast acquisition platform. Mostly within 100 yards. I have 2 questions?
What Mid-Length barrel would you suggest? and What optics or iron sights? |

For the barrel any Mil Spec 1-7 twist should do you fine.
For the optic I would go with a Aimpoint PRO its a great red dot sight that wont break the bank $400.00. Some will chime in and suggest a Eotech, but for me I love the simplicity of a single red dot nothing wrong with a Eotech I just find there reticles a little busy IMO.

Does anyone else harbor a distaste for battery dependent optics?
I find a small and light 2.5x shotgun scope pretty comfortable. On a .22, I have an old Weaver red dot sight that gathers light from a fiber optic rod and projects a translucent red dot that I would guess to be about 10MOA on to the target. It did not cost $1000 (more like $30) is light and works well so long as one is not shooting from darkness into light. I cannot find anything like it in the current market.

Ordered my barrel tonight. I went with a Daniel Defense Cold Hammer forged 16 inch Mid-Length. Will post pics when it arrives.
Now... What Muzzle Device and why? How about A Gas Block? Any preferences out there? |

Well, it has come down to the last few things before final assembly.
Up next: Muzzle Device: VG6 Gamma 556 Sight: Aimpoint PRO Then all I will have to do is load it up and hit the range. This has been a ton of fun. |

To each their own. I got the stock for a low price because of the color and I knew I could dye it black...

I just noticed I neglected to post what Bolt carrier group I went with. I decided t take a chance with the Parallax Tactical Nickel Boron BCG. They are newcomers and have started to develop a good name for themselves. I also went with their light weight low profile gas block. Sorry no pics... Here are the links though...

Well, they are backordered, but I decided to go with the VG6 Gamma Muzzle Brake. Form what I have seen and read it is gonna be very sweet. And that was the last piece before assembly. Whoa.

How did you dye your stock? I didn't know you could do that. (my newbie status making itself known.)

Came out great, nice rifle! - I'm glad to see you broke up the black with another color the way you did. I get sick of black after a while - I've been on a flat dark earth/olive drab spree lately...

That's a nice-looking AR!
I have a feeling, though, that after the first time you shoot it, you are going to move the PRO back to a location directly over the mag well, so the rifle will balance much better. |

Don't forget that the ubr is heavy. keeping the PRO forward keeps it more balanced. But I will try it in different locations.

Keep in mind also that the further back the greater FOV you will have and less looking thru a "tube" effect.

I'd always heard you want your red dots as far towards the muzzle as possible to prevent treating it like a scope (rough reasoning, I forget the details). I don't have a red dot of any sort, however, so this is just what I've read.
