Duck Hunters In Michigan
>This is from a radio program, a true report of an incident in Michigan.
>A guy buys a brand new Lincoln Navigator for $42,500 and has $560 monthly payments. He and a friend go duck hunting in

Now these two Rocket Scientists do take into consideration that they want to place the stick of dynamite on the ice at a
location far from where they are standing (and the new Navigator), because they don't want to take the risk of slipping
on the ice when they run from the burning fuse and possibly go up in smoke with the resulting blast. They light the 40-second fuse and throw the dynamite.
Remember a couple of paragraphs back when I mentioned the vehicle, the guns and the dog?
Let's talk about the dog: A highly trained Black Lab used for RETRIEVING.
Especially things thrown by the owner.
You guessed it, the dog takes off at a high rate of doggy speed on the ice and captures the stick of dynamite with the
burning 40-second fuse about the time it hits the ice. The two men yell, scream,
wave their arms and wonder what to do now. The dog, cheered on, keeps coming. One of the guys grabs the shotgun and
shoots the dog. The shotgun is loaded with # 8 buckshot, hardly big enough to stop a Black Lab. The dog stops for a moment,
slightly confused, but continues on. Another shot and this time the dog, still standing, becomes really confused and
of course terrified, thinking these two geniuses have gone insane. The dog takes off to find cover, under the brand new
Navigator.
>BOOM! Dog and Navigator are blown to bits and sink to the bottom of the lake in a very large hole, leaving the two
idiots standing there with this "I can't believe this happened" look on their faces.

It would only be quite a story if it were true. It is fictional, but how can you tell?

1. First is the claim to be true
2. Is credited to a source that is not named.
3. There is too much detail of the wrong things, such as the specific the specific model of vehicle, specific total cost, and specific payments, but the names of the participants are left out. Note the specific time of the fuse is clearly known.
4. One of the guys owns dynamite that he just happens to be carrying in the vehicle. Not bloody likely.
5. The math is all wrong. At $560 a month payments for a new vehicle, assuming a 4 year loan, that just comes out to $26,880, a 5 year loan being $33,600, and these numbers include all the interest as well, not just principal.
6. Of course the clincher is going to www.snopes.com and searching using key words such as explosive, dog, and ice and you will get the same darn story, only it was with a Jeep Cherokee and the payments on that vehicle were also just $560. Either the guy with the Navigator paid about half down in cash for his new vehicle or the bozo that changed and updated the story didn't do the math.

This has been discussed several times on this board. The best reason I saw as to why it is BS was; There are no ducks when there is ice on the lake. They fly south.

I have successfully hunted ducks in Mexican mountains over frozen lake, in the 40s.

Also first heard that story in the early 40s.

It's just a story. Different versions of this have been floating around on e-mail for years. Well before Navigators were made. I've seen this listing Explorers, Jeep Cherokees, etc. and in with different states.

Sam, not that it matters, but I think the point is that ducks migrate South for the Winter. I don't think it is so much the fact that the water is frozen. Mexico, is way far South of Michigan. And, if you get high enough in elevation it will be cold; even close to the equator. Again, it doesn't matter and I am no duck expert. That just sounded logical to me.

South is kinda relative. Austrailains aside, quite a few ducks move south to winter in southern Canada and Northern U.S. While others of the same breed may go much further south to winter.
