Wards Western Field 04M 495B manufacture date
I have a Wards Western Field 04M-495B in decent shape that I picked up for 40$. The bore is in incredible shape. Other than the manufacture and the model number, there isn't any marking on the reciever or barrel other than a W or M (not sure which is right side up) at the breach end of the barrel on the bottom.
My understanding of these rifles is that they have little collector value, and I'd like to clean it up, refinish the stock, and maybe reblue some pieces myself. Is there any way to tell when this rifle was made, or get a general idea? Thanks. |

My cross reference doesn't show any 04M-495B by Western Field.
Western Field was a brand name used by Montgomery Wards and many of their guns were actually made by Mossberg. Of the guns I did find with the 04M prefix, all were Mossberg's, but appear to be shotguns. Without a positive ID of exactly which company actually made your gun, and the model number, there's no way to know a production era. You might contact Gun Parts Corporation and ask them to ID it for you. They're the prime parts supplier for these older guns, and they should be able to ID it for you. http://www.e-gunparts.com/ |

jcadwell,
My dad lost a Mossberg Model 04m 495B in a burglary several years back. Due to fond childhood memories he would really love to have it replaced. If you would be willing to sell that gun, before or after you restore it, please let me know. 417-499-8200 Ken Kennedy |
