spotting scope; Weatherby Sightmaster

What is the consensus on a Weatherby Sightmaster spotting scope.
This is a vintage looking item, (1970's in appearance maybe, 20-45x w/ a 60mm bell (I think the descrip is right, I don't have it handy)

Who really made it for Weatherby? Is considered it a relatively good quality optic?

Depending on the replies, I might say what I paid. Don't want to admit getting had on the net. I tried to search it on the forums and google, but came up w/ little. Weatherby recommends a place in FL for repair if necessary.

The "Sightmaster" arrived today and initial impressions are very good. The made in USA tripod was a bonus. Optically it seems very clear. The power and focus knobs are not quite as precise and tight as I would like, but not bad.

Initial tests on the porch at the distant skyline and on stuff close in the yard are encouraging.

Wish somebody knew more?????

Sorry I can't help much Bama. The 70's was kinda weird for optics. There was a big boom in the industry and civilian optics were just taking off really well in the last half of the 60's and early 70's with new designs and technology. Does it not even have a stamp saying what country it was made in? If not U.S.- then my guess goes to one of the three big Japanese optics companies.

Marked w/ the Weatherby script on the eyepiece, but........in very small print on the inside surface of the focus knob it says Japan.

Weatherby had a line of scopes marked Sightmaster as well.

And the current website lists a location in FL for repair!!!

I can't tell you who made the scope but I can tell you that is is a very good one. I bought mine used back in the 80's when I was shooting competition. It will pick up a .22 caliber hole at 200 meters with no problems.
