Mine's definitely a beater--it has lots of scrapes, dents and gouges--I just throw some paint on every now and then to cover em up.; )

If my Mini14 had been inaccurate, it wouldn't have been a beater. It was an honest 3"+ groups with random bulk ammunition with Russian stuff mixed in, but using good varmint ammunition it would group very well. But I don't doubt that the majority of them are inaccurate, there's plenty of evidence to the fact.
I live an urban life now, so I haven't carried a beater around with me in the last couple of years now. If I return to rural life, I'll use an AR as a beater rifle. |

My Norinco SKS is my beater. It rides in my trunk every day. I got it cheap in a fun shop because somebody got happy with the Tapco catalog and took off the bayonet. Still shoots good though.
My Yugo N-PAP 7.62X39 AK is in better shape but I still don't treat it with kid gloves. I used the steel butt plate to smash my buddies clay thrower into the ground today. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using Tapatalk |

A Remington Apache 77. While my Apache is from the late 80s, the nylon Remington rifles demonstrate that "plastic fantastic" is nothing new in the gun world.

I have a number of firearms that I shoot a lot, but none I ever "beat" on.
Guns are expensive, and thus I take care of them. |

Well, if you've ever bushwhacked your way down a mountain-side woods at in the complete dark, no trails, steep rocks in the rain with leaves on the ground--you'd have a beater!

Stagpanther, when you put it that way, my Maverick 88 is kind of a beater as well. The Apache doesn't get kept in a case or cleaned much and when I take anywhere, it just gets "tossed" in the vehicle. The maverick has saved my behind from hitting the ground on more than one occasion, while out in rough country, but I keep it clean and in a case when not in use.

The SAR-1 'AK' Romanian clone,
or the sidefolder AMD-65 Hungarian (also has all-matching components). All of my AKs (five) use only the fairly ergonomic Hun. Tanker mags. My Yugo M59 (is not a 59/66) SKS might be as perfect, but can't be as compact. If a rifle ever Needs to be carried in a car on the edge of this suburban/rural area, or driving into the city, it will only be during very unlikely, very bad times. Haven't had a mini around for years, until recently when one was gifted to me from a good friend. I had forgotten how much fun they are, and it's going to see a lot more action in the future. I can not believe how far that thing throws the empties! It has to be ejecting them 30+ feet...with such force that it's probably dangerous to be standing to the right side of it when I'm shooting. I still need to do some fine tuning on the sights, but it's showing some real promise.

I might just have a slipping memory, but didn't the old Minis throw the brass in a more upward fashion?
I seem to remember my mini in the 80s doing that. My current mini chunks them more sideways. |
