Kimber Compact .45
I need to remove the slide. I notice a small hole thru the diameter of the guide rod. Should this be "pinned" before I remove the slide? The double recoil spring seems to have a lot of pressure and Im wondering if I remove the recoil spring assem to drop out the barrel will I encounter problems reassembling? (without some sort of "pin" thru the guide rod

New compact Kimbers come with a special takedown tool to capture the spring assembly..If you don't have one simply straighten a paper clip and put about 1/8' bend in one end...Lock the slide back and place the paper clip thru the hole then ease the slide forward thus capturing the assembly...Remove the slide normally...The entire spring assembly will slip out of the slide towards the breech...

CJO is right on. Use a paper clip.
