Nosler starting load is listed as 23.0gr. That's the place to start. Max load of 25.0gr. It would not be wise to start at 24.5gr.

H335 is very popular for .223, especially in semi autos. Agree on starting at 23gr - you'll likely end up at 25, but (as always) do it right and work up.

H335 is great in 223, as is varget,RL-15 and a few others.. All you can do is give it a try. I ended up with Varget as my go to,only becase RL-15 is not avalible now or then or ever again.

I like Ramshot Xterminator better, or at least my AR does.

I've come to really like 8208 XBR with the 55 gr Varmageddon HP. Yesterday saw a five round group at 25 yards, standing unsupported, inside of an inch.

H335 is canister grade WC844. WC844 is the powder Olin developed for the military for .223 in the 60's, so it's a compatible powder. In 1989, CCI changed their magnum primer formulation to better ignite these older spherical propellant formulations, so a CCI magnum primer (450 or #41 for floating firing pin self-loaders) would be a good choice with it. But do begin with the starting load and work up in steps of no more than 2% of maximum (half a grain in this case), especially with the magnum primer.
The Ramshot powders have a more modern deterrent coating, and Western's lab guy told me they don't need the warmer primer to ignite well.

I love it. I use 24 gr of H335 with 55gr Remington MC bullets and Remingto 7 1/2 primers.
As others have said, it's best to start at the minimum and work up. |
