Curious question

So it's almost christmas, and we are all celebrating.

I had an odd idea, and it would probably worked. What would happen if you just loaded .223 cases with just the primer only. No Projectiles, or powder.

How loud would this be? I know it wouldn't cycle, but it might be fun just as a noise maker on new years.

depending on where you were at when shooting them off, you could still be charged criminally with discharging a firearm within city limits,,not to mention neighbors seeing you out in the yard pointing a gun in the air would probably crap their britches,,,,sounds like a waste of primers,,just my opinion

A primer by itself wouldn't be very loud fired in a rifle. They're like a loud cap gun from a revolver, but tie up the cylinder with each shot unless you modify the brass. Empty brass doesn't feed well in many autoloaders and I don't load any of mine except from the magazine.

This is a very bad idea, for the simple reason that it trivializes firearms in the attempt to make them toys. When you start treating guns as toys, you have lost respect for their power.

Use your imagination and find another way to make noise, if you feel the need to do that.

Not a good idea. Fireworks are less costly anyway.

I want to agree with Sparks1957. Please rethink your respect (or lack there of) of firearms.

If Spark1957's reasoning is not enough please also remember that as a gun owner you are a representative of all gun owners and the coming days will be trying enough without images of partiers waving guns around.

Please don't. Bad idea. Show more respect to your guns and your responsibility as a gun owner.

I do that when I am testing primers (had a batch that I had to confirm were not good as primed 20 years ago and sat in what turned out to be a flooded crawl space.

As you single load as they will not feel you inspect each one.

I dried out the non loaded ones them out and tested them to see if they were good.

I use snap caps and dry fire pistol, whats the difference?

And yes they make a noise like small firecracker (lady finger and the like)

So, put me in the criminal category. Oddly with my irresponsible behavior in 55 years I have never had an NG
