1895SBL Marlin in 45-70 for hogs and deer up close this year, Savage in 260 for past 100 yards. Hoping to get close enough to something to use my 45 Colt Ruger Bisley.

I've got a hog/Corsican ram hunt next weekend. Maybe then?

I hope to get my elk and bear with my bow this year, but will use my .300 Win Mag if October rolls around and I haven't filled a tag.

Mostly I'll be hunting with this... (the flintlock, not the bear).

If I make it to Wyoming, I'll use my Rem 700 in .30-06.

Elk:
My good old Winchester Model 70 in 30-06 with a Weaver K-4 will be my main elk rifle, as it has been for years.

I'm also bringing my new Marlin 1895G in 45-70 as a back-up rifle, has a 1-3x Weaver scope mounted. We hunt some very thick stuff, especially for cow elk. During these times I'll probably pack the Marlin, and other people in camp can use it if they wish.

Deer:
My favorite rifle in general is my deer rifle, another Model 70 in 243. I put a 4-16x Nikon Monarch on it last year to extend my range.
Here's the rifle. It like's to kill coyotes too:

I'm also hoping to have my new Win Model 70 in 270WSM up and running to 500 yards by deer season. It may see some use this year, definitely in the coming years. Actually I may bring it to elk camp too, in case we can't find any elk in the thick stuff.

I am hoping to get my 12 y.o. daughter her own deer rifle, so that we can stop playing "musical chairs" with the deer guns we have: last year she took her elder sister's 30/30, her sister took my .270, and that left me with the Bubba'd 1888 Commision Rifle

I now have better back-up choices than the Gew. 88, but I really want to carry Ol' Betsy.

Yeah, no problem. When I bought the rifle the mount was on backwards, as is the picture. It's on correctly now. As for height, part of it is that that scope has no bell. A scope with a bell would probably look right, but it's not a high base I don't think.

My Remmy 721's stock is not set up for a scope ..... I had to raise my head up off the stock a bit to get a good sight picture. I fixed it with one of these:

Yeah, it's much better now because the scope is further forward. When it was like it was in the picture, I remember I did have to raise my head a little. But it fits fine now. I need some new pics...hopefully next to an elk

I will most likely take my savage model 10 .270 wsm as always. I have other guns that I could use and would like to use but i always end up taking the savage.

My safe full of rifles (25 total) and my dilemma comes from having a decent job and not starting a family until I was 38. Getting married sure put a damper on my rifle purchases, but I did get to pick up a new Pink Cricket last year for my step-daughter who loves to shoot with me. Plus my wife loves to shoot her own pistols and AR-15 that she brought into the marriage; she’ll shoot varmints but will not hunt.

It really is, with the one piece scope rings, and kevlar stock, this custom Model 7 shoots great, with a limited amount of rounds in a row mind you ... it is a very light contoured, 20-inch barrel! The trigger is wonderful. The only thing it is short on is capacity with those fat little rounds! I took a nice Wildebeest, at a rather long range, with it in Africa.

This is my first lightweight rifle, and after carrying heavy Weatherby's and Winchesters around forever I appreciate it!

I like FrontSight's idea but like OP I'm blessed with too many options for hunting rifles. Dunno if I can swing building a walk-in freezer this year, could also involve quite a few hunting trips. I like the way you think, FrontSight.

All kidding aside my "backup" gun will be either my Guide Gun in 45-70 or (and?) a Ruger M77 in .30-06. "Primary" will be a Super Grade 70 in .30-06. "Secondary" guns include many interesting possibilites but that depends on the hunting situation. Most trips involve two double rifle cases filled and a short case will likely contain a Contender and a RBH in 45 Colt. Other than the RBH in an EPS hunting holster I quite honestly don't know sometimes until I leave camp or head to the stand. Pre-season sight-in is an all-day chore, sometimes I just take 2-3 to the range at a time. Don't wanna hurt myself before hunting season.

- 100 grain Thunderhead broad heads

I'll be hunting early muzzle-loader season of central Pennsylvania with my 50 caliber rifle:
- CVA Ultima
- Bushnell 1.5X - 5X scope
- Sabot with .430 Hornady bullet 240 grain XTP

I'll be hunting shotgun-only area of northern Bucks County, Pennsylvania with my 12 gauge:
- Mossberg 500 with ported & rifled barrel
- TASCO 4X compact scope

I'll be hunting deer (buck) season of central Pennsylvania with my 30-30 caliber rifle:
- Glenfield model 30GT
- Simmons 2X - 8X scope
- Remington 150 grain corelokt ammo

Hello all, I think this year I will hunt with my Marlin 45-70 guide gun. Me and a friend of mine just got on a new hunting lease this year. Our set ups are all in or around heavy brush, with the farthest shot being about 70-75yrds. I chose to use the 45-70 for that reason and also because I haven't hunted with it in about a couple of years. Thanks for reading and safe and happy hunting all.

I have already taken 2 deer with my Savage 7 mag. My old Remmy .30-06 is looking at me with sad eyes like my Basset hound when she is ready to go outside and play, but I just can't seem to leave The Savage at home. I guess I will take it out soon, don't want to let it forget how to play in case I need a backup.

For Axis and other exotics I carry a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight .30-06 using Federal Premium 165g BTSP, for whitetail and smaller game Remington 700BDL in .25-06 with Hornady 117g SST.

Wife uses a Remington Model 7 in 6mm with 100g, and a Ruger Hawkeye Compact in .223 with 55g.

Been doing a lot of stick and string hunting. Once gun season starts I'll be using a muzzle loader.

After deer season is over, I'll start hitting the predators hard with 22-250Rem.

Been doing a lot of squirrel hunting with my 22's.

I'll do some rabbit hunting with my buddies since they have dogs.

I hate summer lol. I love to hunt.
