Best .45 to suppress
What do you think the best .45acp pistol is to suppress. I was looking at the fnh fnx-45 tactical but I can't find it anywhere. What are some other choices?

The best. 45 to suppress is going to be the .45 that you like the most plus a threaded barrel. I believe some companies produce models with threaded barrels, so picking one them could save you some money, but it's not worth it if you don't like the gun in the first place.

Psst...
If you want a high end surpressed .45acp, I'd look at a HK Mark23 .45acp .
A few net ninjas & bullet-heads said HK-USA put the SOCCOM Mark 23 out of production but it's still on the US Heckler & Koch site and it's highly rated for covert ops. I think AWC or Knight's Armanent in central Florida market milspec sound reduction gear for the big Mark 23. Clyde |

Economoically speaking, the USP tactical, Sig P220, or tthe S&W M&P (I think they offer it with a threaded barrel). The Glock doesn't seem to function well with the heavier suppressors, Niielson device or not. I use a 1911 style, but the 16/1 metric threading of the aforementioned guns is heavier (and stronger) than the .578x24 or 40tpi of the 1911 barrels. My early gen AWC Nexus snapped a 1911 barrel threading right off the gun one time, so I am leary of threaded 1911 .45's. Glock threaded barrels abound, but you might never get it to be a semi-auto; it will work as a manually operating repeater, though.

I've never been a huge fan of the FN Tactical. The $1k asking price is a bit much for what it is. You can suppress a Glock or M&P on the cheap. Its hard to find suppressor sights for a M&P however. You should be able to find several suppressor sights for the Glock. A Sig P220 would be another excellent choice. 1911's are a fun gun to suppress. I ran a suppressor with no booster on a Commander sized Sig TacOps with a factory recoil spring with no issues. It was a fun gun.
The best I could think of is a HK mk23 if you could find and afford one. |

I've had a HK USP Tactical .45 for several years, but have yet to suppress it. It has the threaded barrel, match trigger, and elevated sight to accomodate a can, plus the recoil system is designed to work reliably with a suppressor. It is a very accurate and soft shooting .45, and I will get a can for it at some point. Just too many toys, too little time and $$$.
I see them around at gun shops so they are available.

The newest suppressed model purchased by our military is the HK MK24, although the MK23 is an excellent choice as well. The MK24 is the HK45ct, aka the model HK45 compact tactical. The HK45 is also about half the price of the venerable MK23.

Another vote for the USP Tactical. The can is proprietary HK and expensive. If memory serves, there is another can that fits, but I can't remember the maker. Check HKpro if your interested.

Most any .45 suppressor made for 16x1 metric threading will work on the USP tactical series, or any other 16x1 threaded weapon (even some custom 1911's can be fitted with bull barrels that will take 16x1 threading, but the gun is altered, with no barrel bushing needed).

My experience is with HKs and a SIG226. The SIG belonged to a friend. It was very uncomfortable to shoot. I kept getting blowback that stung the skin on my face. I've not experienced any blowback from my HKs. I have a Mark 23, a USP Tactical 45 and a USPct 45. They are a delight to fire suppressed.
