series 80 FP safety are not true M1911's

Quote:
I defy anyone who has a 1911 with the Series 80 firing pin safety to do a detail strip and reassemble in the dark.
I dont consider a pistol to be a true M1911 / M1911A1 if it has the Colt series 80 type firing pin safety

or if it doesnt accept standard USGI parts, even the standard firing pin

the MEU SOC M1911A1 used by the USMC doesnt use it

Yes you need help and you are the only one that can help you. Over cleaning your guns can wear them out and dull the actions. Keep calm and let it get carbonate a little bit.

I'm guilty !
This morning I pulled my 1971 Ruger Blackhawk from it's holster, sprayed some RemOil on a rag, wiped it down , cycled the action a few times , ran my hands over the smooth ivory grips.... it just seemed to make going back to work on a Monday morning just a whole lot better. Lets call it Therapy .... and a lot better than any head shrinker could dole out.

Obviously you love guns (or your gun). Your actions are understandable. There is something cathartic in stripping and cleaning it. Not unlike the Lamborghini owner who washes is car every day!!

Yeah I pretty much have a routine, Sunday night is cleaning night, kinda puts me at ease for facing another work week. LOL I don't have time to clean more often than that, maybe one other cleaning. I shoot numerous times during the week after work.

No man you don't need help.
LIke to take your pistol down? just do it,no harm done.Wether it needs it or not
if it pleases you strip it down and put back together again it's your pistol for you to enjoy, shoot it,detail strip, whatever, don't let nobody tell you what not to do with it.

LOL, the responses have been everything from truthful to hysterical. I admit it, she's my baby, I take care of her, she takes care of me. Wow, that sounded so much better in my head. However, there is one addendum to this post, I like cleaning my gun while watching one of the following in no order:

A Bridge Too Far
Kelly's Hero's
Person of Interest
Tombstone
Silverado
Full Metal Jacket (especially the opening with R. Lee)

The list continues, but I know most don't care, but feel free to add on.

My wife wishes I cleaned the dishes as well as I do my guns, some how it is more difficult to achieve the zen stage doing dishes than it is with guns.

HiBC you're right. I included Tombstone and Silverado as I am a huuuge western fan, there are many more, but those two came to mind. And ms6852, I agree, washing dishes is a chore, cleaning my gun gives me clarity.

Every time I read a thread like this, I wonder what’s wrong with me. I HATE cleaning my guns. It’s a chore I have to do once a month to make sure it operates properly, so I can do what I really like — shooting it.

P.S. And please don’t tell me to just get a Glock.

So you like watching "Full Metal Jacket".

Do you talk to your pistol and whisper sweet nothings into its muzzle?
Do you take it to bed with you?
Do you look a bit like Vincent D'Onofrio?

If the answer to any of the above is "yes", you may have an issue.
