New AR-15

Hey guys,

I was just given a new RRA AR-15 in 5.56 for my birthday and need to dress it up as it's kinda naked right now

. I need suggestions on a sling, sights, magazines and other accessories.

For the sling, I'm thinking a single point (because I don't really know the advantages of 3-point). Something relatively cheap like:

For magazines, I really like these Magpuls...I've heard good things.

For a sight, I'm thinking a red dot sight as it will mostly be used for plinking and a little hog hunting during the day and at night. This will also have to be relatively cheap as I am on a budget. Suggestions welcome

I have the L2 that Jimdo sells on this website and was thinking about mounting that one to it but was unsure if it will be able to handle the shock. Does anybody have experience with this particular light?

Also, a laser might be cool??

The A-TAC sling (and its HK style hook) is definitely the way to go.Lots of good mags out there.Get the email deals from CDNN & check out their catalog which you can download to your computer.Great price on their Fusil mags.

Don't get too caught up in accessorizing your rifle just yet

1) learn how to clean and lube the AR. I suggest the utoob vid by NSSF Clean your AR-15 (Chris Fry)

2) start off with decent brass-cased non-corrosive factory ammo. If you choose to shoot steel cased or corrosive after you learn the differences, so be it.

3) spend some quality time with the peep sights, before you go with optics. Even tho you may only drive a car with an automatic transmission for the rest of your life, you will never regret learning to drive a stick.

4) for a cost-effective red-dot sight, I would suggest taking a look at the Vortex Sparc (utoob vid, military arms channel)

Last but not least, I can assure you that in the long run, learning good rifle marksmanship will be much more rewarding than tacti-cool bling bling on your gat

Remember your new AR is like a Barbie, it wants you to buy it things. No matter what scope you get I suggest a riser so you don't block access to your charging handle.

peep sights dont fail like glass and batteries do...learn to use all that you have for your AR. I personnaly do not recomend shooting steel ever cause it is hard on parts and usualy nasty powder which is bad for that really long gas tube you have. Get a good stock of cleaning gear like patches and brushes. slings are like pants. if they do not fit right they dont fit. squeezing into a sling that you dont like or is uncmfotrable will get annoying fast. my suggestion find a friend in the military and try all of his then decide. Oh and congrats on the new toy

I think I am going to hold off on sights at least for a little while to get more acquainted with the iron sights. For now, I'm going to mount a light, get new mags, and a sling.

I am a fairly big guy at 6'1" 225# so would the a tac sling I posted from midway fit me. Does anybody have any experience with it?
