Just shot my first batch of .45 reloads!

I just started reloading 2 days ago, and I shot my first batch of .45 ACP today. I made 50 rounds just as a test using 230grn FMJ, 5.5 grains of Unique and CCI primers. They functioned flawlessly in my SIG P220 without so much as a hiccup. I shot some factory UMC 230grain as a comparison and what I found is that my reloads are much more accurate. I was getting like 2inch groups at ~50 feet with the reloads and like 4inch groups with the UMC rounds. This was using a pistol rest. I do think that I will try a hotter load in my next batch (still well within safe limits).
I loaded these on a cheap (inexpensive) Lee 35th Anniversary Reloading kit. This is fun.

I got started on one of those Lee kits, and loaded some pretty good ammo, before I decided to buy some heavier equipment. I've also found that my reloads are more accurate than most factory loads.

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Roll your Own.

It is fun ... especially when you find the optimum load you have developed beats the crap out of the factory stuff, and for a fraction of the price.

My current practice load for .45 is 5.4gr W231 behind a 190gr LSWC (which I cast myself). Accurate, but not particularly hot.

As others here have written many times ...
Safety First. Work your loads up slowly and keep alert for signs you are pushing the edge.
