I have a couple Rock Island guns and they are accurate and quality. Very hard to beat for the price. In fact I'm picking up their stripped down 1911 in the next couple weeks.

I will add that I have owned 3 Rock Islands (I currently own a 9mm Tactical) and they have all been 100% reliable. I have put a lot of lead downrange with my 9mm tactical and it has never skipped a beat. There are only two things I would like to change on it, I would like some 3-dot sights instead of the plain black sights that come on it and I would like to have it hard chromed so it has a more durable finish. Other than that it's pretty much perfect. It even runs 100% on aftermarket 9mm mags.

Well the 9mm tactical 1911 came in today. I removed all the packing grease/oil, cleaned her up, polished the feed ramp (I do that on all my low end 1911's because the machine marks just annoy me), and swapped out the grips for some duragrips. I'll be taking it to the range tomorrow so a range report will follow. I attached a couple pics just because we all love pics!

Congrats! I really like mine ALOT! As you shoot it you will find it just gets better. The sear will polish somewhat and get smoother as it works on the hammer hooks, when that happens the trigger pull really gets smooth. Enjoy!

Another Rock Island recommendation here. I have two of their 1911s (a 9mm GI and a .45 Tactical.) The Tactical model has all of the usual "upgrades" and can still be found for < $500. Both of mine have been very reliable. Also, my 9mm 1911 is definitely the softest shooter that I have, (not including the .22s.) This includes a CZ 75, an FN Hipower and a Glock 19.
Good luck with your choice. TMann |

Although I have never shot the Rock Island 1911 9mm, I have recently acquired a new Rock Island 1911 Tac II FS with the VZ grips in 45. It just amazes me all you get for the money in an RIA, not to mention how well it shoots, trigger pull, great sights, etc.. Love the gun. Just don't like the magazine it came with. I now use Wilson Combat mags. They are bullet proof.
I am considering a RIA in 9mm as well. |

I'm going to operate on the assumption that the OP has already solved his dilemma.
