Tom, I think I have been in your prediciment before. Check to make sure the hammer is in the down position, if it's up, it will prevent the bolt from coming out.

Had the Same problem with mine a few weeks ago...
I just took a small cleaning rod and reached up through and pulled the part back down, I guess its the firing block or something like that its the part thats susposed to be down when reasembling mine got bumped when the pin wouldnt go back in easy, I guess it will get better when it loosens up some, just take the cleaning rod and look up through the magazine area and you can use the tip too pull the block back down and the bolt will come out.. I was pulling my hair out for about 20 minutes before I figured it out, after that it was pretty simple...Jim |

Look up in the hole where the mainspring housing goes. It's a wedge shaped aluminum piece, it has the strut hanging down off of it if I remember correctly. It will have to be down anyway for the mainspring housing to go back in. Ruger has a video on youtube that will help you out.

Budduh said it better then me, Yes its aluminum looking, Use a flash light and you can see better, Then just use the cleaning rod to pull the back end down
Your pulling down on the end towards the back of the gun, It moves pretty easy so it dont take much, look up into the magaizne well Jim |

Might have reassemble and insert the mag and dry fire. My memory might be faulty but I believe this will allow the bolt to slide free on takedown.

Wait until you try and reassemble the gun, then it gets frustrating I kinda wished I had bought a .22 revolver sometimes.

Reading the manual, or watching a video while doing it does help. It really is a simple procedure once you know how to deal with the hammer plunger.

Im glad it worked out for you tom, Its hard to type and say what I was talking about, I guess wedge looking part was the best way to put it,
since I dont know what exactly to call it, If you move the gun around to different directions it moves the wedge pretty easy, I had the same problem getting the pin back in my gun, and just used a cleaning rod when I found out what was going on, glad it worked out for you Jim |
