Load for Remington VTR
has anyone got a good load for the VTR? I have one and have only shot one box of loads and did not like the results of 4064 and 55gr Vmax to much. I have shot some American Eagle and 55gr FMJ and i think it should be shooting a lot better. Just wanted some ideas.
Thanks in advance roc1 |

50 gr. 4064 under 150 gr. Harnady FMJBT. Below was shot with a 700 BDL 30/06 at 100 yards and I don’t shoot worth poop! Spelling could use a little help too.
That's a 1" dot.

For 55 grain bullets in .223 Rem. I like using 25.0 grains of H-335 with a COL of 2.260 inches. with VMax and 55 grain FMJBT it will produce 5 shot groups well under a half inch if I do my part correctly. The load is capable of much greater accuracy than I am able to milk out of it.

I just spent most of today reloading and shooting my new 223 (Ruger Hawkeye). AA 2230 powder behind the 55 grain Nosler BT was Ok but not great. The Lyman book suggested 27.8 grains of Varget as their recommended best load (also a maximum load) for the 55 grain bullet, so I worked my way up to that. None of the loads shot that great until I actually got to that max load and then it started putting most of the 5 shots into one hole. The wind was blowing pretty hard, so I'm thinking (and hoping) that's why I couldn't ever get all 5 into one ragged hole. I was going to try 4064 and 3031, but I may not need to. The Ruger is just as purchased, with no gunsmith tuneup at all, so I'm pretty happy with it so far. Nice stock and the grip feels good in my hand.

From what I’ve read/heard Varget is what most of the bench-rest shooter are using for .223
