last week used to pay 32 dollars for brick of small or large primers now paying 38 dollars.ammunition companies must be making a fortune right now.local walmart now has no ammo except for shotgun shells and 22 rimfire, local gunstore has no popular handgun calibers its getting crazy.are people getting ready for war or what?

Actually, that price isn't too bad compared to some I've seen advertised lately. In my neck of the woods, there haven't been any small pistol primers available AT ALL for 2 months at any price. When I saw some last week, I bought 2000 and felt like I was the luckiest guy in the county and I thought it was actually reasonable to "only" have to pay $39/1000

I just found some here for $42/1000 and I didn't buy them because I thought it was a little steep. I might go back and see if they are still around.

I think Im to the point where Im not buying anymore reloading supplies or ammo Im just gonna shoot my black powder pistol once in a while.Im not going to buy reloading supplies at rediculous prices.I think 38 dollars for a box of primers is steep an im sure as heck not going to pay 40-60 dollars for a box!thats highway robbery!maybe we should start a movement and convince people to stop reloading and going to the range for a few months .kinda like a tea party.I can understand people buying a thousand primers here and there but peoplebuying 10 20 30 40 thousand primers at a time thats rediculous!Me Im done for a long time buying any reloading supplies@

I am fairly new to reloading, so I have never seen the sweet deals. Primers seem to be the hardest to get. I was just looking on gunbroker, they had 5000 winchester large pistol being bid up to $355. Thats 71 per 1000 and thats before hazmat shipping. So does it ridiculous pricing end or is this the end of our hobby.

well if we can start a tea party movement we can say no to these rediculous prices.Id rather make my own black powder at home and cast my own lead balls than pay outrageous prices!shooting should not be a rich mans sport!something about this ammunition shortage smells fishy!Obama gets elected now theres no more ammo. I think its possible a lot of ammo is making its way to mexico and overseas to other countries every where else but our local walmart.

our guns are being turned into overpriced paper weights overnight!Ive seen people go to the gun store to purchase their first handgun and there is no ammo for it.I just bought my wife a 38 special for her purse and if I didnt know how to reload for it I wouldnt be able to take her shooting so she can practice!Shes starting to appreciate my black powder pistol also.

I wonder how close this will be compared to the gasoline problems we saw over the last few years.

I remember (Not that long ago) freaking out when gas his $2 per gallon. Then it was over $5 per gallon, now it's under $2 per gallon again.

For a point of reference, here are the current MSRP on primers :

CCI 43.43/M Federal $ 45.40 Remington $ 36.70 Win $ 39.44

IF you can find 'em, buy'EM dealers aren't really making much of a profit in todays market.

@ the gun show in Tulsa they were $ 48/M In Colorado Springs $ 98/m

OUCH !

If I was in the primer making business, I would tool up to satisfy the current demand. What gives? Would it be too expensive to buy the machinery that makes primers? Do the ammo companies feel like demand will be satisfied sometime soon, and that is the reason for not stepping up production/machinery?

It just seems like the ammo companies are missing out on alot of cash.

Primer Prices

Most primers are going Military, we get what's left, read here and other places. I started buying last summer and have a comfortable supply after seeing what was running in the primarys. Been there once not a second time.
Good Luck to all.

Must be accurate info, since I just got identical pricing info from my long-time supplier yesterday. I pretty sure this is what we all can expect for pricing on newly delivered/manufactured primers. It sucks, but at least there's a few starting to show up in the system.
