Got my hands on some 9mm 124g Gold Dot's!
Finally I have gotten my hands on some Gold Dot's for my 9mm's.
For those that have not been looking for them (Reloading) they are almost always out of stock or are costing a bit to much (IMO). I have been using many different bullets weights and types and found Hornady XTP's in any weight to work fantastic but, now I am going to give some GD's a try. If any of you have experience reloading these fine HP and have some good data they would like to share it's always welcome. I do understand that I will need to work up my own loads for the guns I will be firing them in but, good data from others is always a good reference point to draw on.

I guess there are no replies because none have been able to get their hands on any Gold Dots to reload in some time?
I got my thousand in the mail today. Right after i got back from testing some +P Hornady 90g XTP's. I was amazed in how accurate these semi hot loads were over Factory Critical Defense 115g. The 90g I loaded up were getting same hole accuracy in my brothers CZ SP01 Phantom and my CZ 75B. I used 7.2g of Power Pistol and checked each shot fired for pressure signs and there were none. When I fired the Critical Defense rounds they were noticeably less accurate having a 3 1/2-4 inch grouping at the same distance. I for got to take a picture of these shots but, I did of my loads. This is 16 rounds at 20ft.

I use the book max load from Alliant for Blue Dot - 7.9 grains with 124 grain Gold Dots at 1.120", out of my Glock 19 off sandbags I got 1.5" five shot groups at 25 yards, those bullets shoot very well. I think you'll have an easy time finding a load you like!

I've loaded and shot the Speer 124 Gold Dot in my G19. I settled on a load using 5.4 grains of Unique powder, CCI 500 primers, in mostly Win cases. Overall length of the 124 GD is 1.120-1.125" and the 5.4 grain charge of Unique gives 1134-1140 fps in my Glock 19 pistol with no pressure signs. Accuracy was good too.

I got lucky and stocked up on Gold dots in 45 and 357 a few years ago. I have boxes of .45 230 grain with 15.99 price tags on them. And they are the 100 count boxes!!! I havent looked for 9mm gdots, or .40 for a while, I bought 3 boxes of 40 at a sale and still shooting those every now and then. I hit a deal at the cabelas bargin cave on 9mm xtps in 9mm for like 11 bucks a box or so. 9mm is not my goto SD gun so im not really looking for high end HP bullets, but the xtps were a good deal so I bought some. (8 boxes) I guess I should be looking for deals on 9mm and .40 cal Gdots now though, as they will only rise in price as the years click by.....

IMO the 124 grain Gold Dots are the absolute best 9mm self defense round out there. Congrats! |

These are some hard to find bullets! My guess is that they are so hard to find because they are used by a number of LE departments? I am working up a load now and even though I use mainly Power Pistol, Bullseye, AA #5 and Tightgroup I may buy a few more slower burning powders to try out? AA #7 and Blue Dot?

Why not just buy the 124 gr +p factory load? I don't see why finding gold dot bullet components would be critical when you can buy the factory load.

In my Glock 19 and 26, 8.4g of Accurate #7 approximates the commercial loading of these bullets, and with lower extreme spreads. I carry factory rounds, but use my reloads for practice.

Factory +P loads such as 124g Speer Gold Dot's cost around $20 per 20 rounds or about $1 per shot! I load them for around $0.17 per round! I just fired some Hornady Critical Defense loads that were far from accurate and my loads were near same hole accurate. Not only do I save money by reloading my ammo I can also make better more accurate ammo! YARDDOG(1) wrote: Quote:
