Savage Stevens model 720 manufacture date

This weekend at the gun show I bought a Savage Stevens model 720 12 gauge. The serial # is 522XX and it has a 28 inch barrel.

I have never seen a list of SNs for that model. From another post a few years ago...

"I believe that is going to be an early one. I have one with #604XX that was supposed to have been born in about 1940 and a #921XX from probably 1945 or 46. Savage produce the 720 from 1930 to 1949. "

I shot a few low brass loads out of it and I liked how it performed. Is it safe to shoot heavier loads, buckshot and slugs out of it as well?

Define heavier.

I'd have no problem using short magnums or most other 2 3/4" ammo. The rings may need resetting if you do so.

Not a major problem. These are tanks. I'd stick to lead, no non toxics or turkey loads. Standard 9 pellet 00 loads and 2 3/4" slugs, should be fine.
