what too look for in a holster for me p226
I just got a p226 and now am looking for a good holster. I need a holster primarily for safe storage and handling of the gun not really for carry. When its loaded and not in its lock box (night stand duty/ in the car/etc) I would prefer to have the trigger covered rather then exposed. What should I be looking for in a holster and what are some good brands. Thanks guys

I have personal experience with and would recommend
Leather: Bianchi, Galco, Don Hume, SafariLand, Ted Blocker Synthetic: Blade-Tech, Uncle Mike's

I'll second the suggestion to check out the G-CODE line. It's well made, well designed, and comes standard with several built in features typical of hand made or custom made kydex. Being a modular system, you can also choose from four different carrying options. G-CODE is one of the few lines of kydex we carry for these reasons. They are a tremendous value for the money.

If mostly for storage look at Uncle mikes basic clip on model. It is made of nylon and thick, so its durable and protects well. It also has a magazine pouch attached, also good for storage so you can grab the gun and extra mag as one package when you need it. It has full trigger coverage and a burly thumb break and its cheap. All these features make it a poor carry holster, but it clips on quickly if you need it to. I often use it as a backpack/ breifcase holster.

I highly recommend the Uncle Mike Injection Molded Kydex line. Just as good as the G-Code and Blade-Tech lines and about $30 less expensive.

Well.....a holster should be analyzed from a function stand point first and foremost.
How do you want to carry it? What environment? Any holster will hold your gun in a cars glove box..........when you wear it, what do you want it to do? Start there and youll be alot happier than just jumping on the UM's bandwagon.......... Shoot wel.

The Uncle Mike's should work fine for your purposes...and save you some money. |
