New to me Maverick 88

I picked up my used Maverick 88 12g last night. Other than loading and firing I'm not too schooled on shotguns. I was reading about accessories for, and read about the slide action, some are double, some single. Can someone explani that, and what difference that makes?

If a picture of thing would help let me know. I'l get one up tonight.

What you are refering to is the slide action bars. They are metal bars that run from the forearm to the reciever. The earlier Mavericks only had one but the new ones have two. Having two makes it more reliable and prevents binding.

Gotcha.... and for one reason or another some accessories are not compatible with both slide actions? Just one or the other?

The Maverick forearm is not the same as the Mossberg forearm. I believe inorder to use forearms made for Mossberg, you have to do a forearm conversion. I'm not familiar with the conversion because I don't have a Maverick but I do have a Mossberg 590A1 but I haven't changed out the forearm because I found it just fine stock. The only thing I have changed is my stock because the factory stock was just too long for me.

What accessories are you looking to add? And what Maverick shotgun did you get?

I just ran across mossbergs site and looked at the maverick 88. Fot he price I don't think one could beat the gun. Under $200 new. Now that sounds like a deal. Esp. since we are talking about a base model 500 just rebranded is all. Had been thinking that the Rem 870 was the only way to go but after reading a lot of posts. I think the mossy 500 is equal to the 870. My mind is made up so now I think I'll save a bit of money and look at getting a Maverick 88.

Go to any Academy or Wal-Mart and you can find a maverick 88 for 150 bucks new.

I own both and I can tell you that the maverick is a mossberg 500 with a few features missing.

The safety is not ambidextrous, the reciever is not drilled and tapped, and it will not accept mossberg fore-ends because the maverick's action bars are directly attached to the plastic fore-end, whereas on the mossberg they are attached toa metal tube that the plastic fore-end fits over. If you manage to get an entire mossberg 500 fore-end assembly including action bars, fore-end tube and fore-end, then you could use that in the maverick.

Mavericks are a great bargain. I will never sell mine because I'll never be able to sell it for what it's worth.....'cause it happens to be worth more than what they are being sold for!
