Which 20 gauge round

I have an 18 1/2", Winchester 1300 pump, in 20 gauge, with modified choke. What round would best suite home defense. My longest in home shot would be about 30feet. I'm new to shot-guns so be gentle..=)

Suggest you buy a few boxes of light loads in #6, 7½, or 8 shot ('dove/quail/game/field') and shoot them at the range. Buy some '0' or '00' Buck and some slugs (usually come in 5 packs) and shoot them. Suspect you'll notice the light loads recoil less.

For home defense, load a slug, then a Buck or two, then the light loads (which will of course be available to shoot first).

20s are much under-rated, but far more suitable for HD. Macho people who kid themselves they need a 12 or 10GA need to do a few range tests before they buy - in my opinion...

A buddy of mine, his wife, and a notable number of cans of beer all managed to get into a serious difference of opinion. She grabbed the 20 gauge. He ran. He didn't run fast enough nor far enough and collected a lot of #9 skeet at around 20-25 yards.

He survived--after a lot of surgery. She apologized profusely, of course.

Had it been 15 yards, or 10 yards, he wouldn't be with us. How many houses have indoor open-length shots of 10 to 15 yards?
