new posts button
Is the "new posts" button on the user side the same as the "today's posts" button on the guest side? Why the difference?

I don't think there's a technical reason for them to be different. vbulletin sends cookies to keep track of which threads you've seen, and cookies should work whether or not you're logged in.
Do they return different results, or are you just wondering about the naming?

I don't think a record of your viewed posts is kept in a cookie when you are a guest. The "Today's posts" button returns exactly that - all posts for the past 24 hours. Hence you will get a long list. The "New posts" button does look at your cookies and returns a list of posts that are new since you last visited. It could be very short or very long depending on the time between visits.
Bottom line - the buttons do similar yet different functions and are named properly. |
