whats your fav. .40?

I'm thinking of buying a glock 23 for carrying and retiring my s&w 637. But I was looking for some suggestions on good .40 cal autos to consider. Not to worried about the price.

So long as money is no object you would be hard pressed to find a better firearm than this one:

FNP-40. Handles great, feels good in the hand, accurate shooter, recoil negligible.

20 years on two G23 for work. Same G27 for home and play. 23 has 10 times the rounds through it. Both flawless performance. 23 shows some wear on metal coating on edges, but minor.

My favorite of 40's I own: Ruger SR40, managable recoil, even for 105 lb. companion (she loves it)....positive ejection pattern.... functions flawlessly. Too large for carry.

You didn't ask, but least favorite: Recently purchased brand new, late Gen 3 FDE Glock 23, consistently pelts me with ejected brass, very irritating, no matter the load. Perfect size, but lottsa recoil. Wanna love this gun, but hate it. She wanted a Glock. We're married.

SIG has been a favorite of mine for years but went with the G23 due to cost. No regrets.

Look into a Sig 226 in 40s&w if you can find one. I don't own one yet, but I would love to make it my next purchase. I own a Gen 4 Glock 23, which I carry OWB (with my shirt tail hiding it) when I'm not carrying my G27 or Shield 40 IWB. They are all good guns, but don't come close to the Sig 226 IMO. The price is higher & that is the reason I haven't bought one yet, but hopefully in a year or two I can still consider one (if Obama and his crew don't ban them, since homeland security & the navy seals carry them. We shouldn't have access to what the military or government has, now can we?)

My favorite is my Sig p229. A few thousand rounds through it without an issue of any kind.

Ive tried an XD .40 and a P226 .40 and both were nice. But the Sig P226 was much better IMHO. And I love my SR9, so I am sure the SR40 is just as good.

HK model USP 40 and S&W model 4006. In terms of value, a S&W Model 4006 "police trade-in" semi-auto in good condition is probably the best buy to be had in today's pistol market-place.

I did forget about the S&W 4006. That would be a nice gun to carry as well.

The OP said money isn't a real concern, so he can choose a lot more than what's being mentioned so far. Of what HAS been mentioned, I agree with whoever said the H&K USP.

+1 on the Sig P226. Look for a CPO (Sig Certified Pre-Owned), I got one from a few years ago and they looked & felt brand new.

I'll add another option that has not been mentioned, the CZ 75 in 40 cal. Another great pistol. I am biased to all-metal guns.

If money were not an issue for me, or really saving money to spend on other guns and ammo were not an issue, I'd take a hard look at an HK. That said I really like the ruger sr40c, feels great in your hand very similar feel to the fn 40, which I also like. CZ makes some nice 40s also, the CZ SP01 is reasonably concealable, shoots very well, reliably, but only holds 10...so CA friendly.

Well I love my M&P 40 full size model, it fits great in my hand and the recoil is very manageable and the pistol is more accurate than I am.

I also just picked up a Stoeger Cougar in .40s&w, however I have yet to shoot it.

Good luck!

As an aside, I have small hands for a guy and they both fit me well. I use the smallest backstrip on the M&P.

I have three 40's - a Glock 27 (gen 3), a Kahr PM40, and a Keltec P40. For reliability, I like the Glock (10 rds) or Kahr (6 rds). The keltec holds 10 also, but is a bit ammo finicky. Overall, and if I had to choose one, I'd probably take the Glock.

Glock 23. Mine is Gen 3, I prefer Gen 4.

The Sig 229 and 226 are outstanding. M&P 40 and SR40 are great launchers for the .40, without breaking the bank. The low bore and flat shooting characteristics of the SR40 really shine with this round.

Gen 4 G27 is my EDC. I also have a G22 and my son has a G23. I shoot the 23 more accurately of the three, go figure???

I picked up a SW99 40 about a year ago with the AS trigger system. I can't say anything bad about the gun.
