H4227 Replacement?

Greetings,
I just burnt up my last keg of H4227 powder. I went to order more then found out it is no longer in production. I see that IMR4227 uses different reloading data in the books, so I'm guessing it's not a 1:1 replacement.
Is there a replacement out there for H4227? I'm reloading for the 300AR with a 150gr bullet.
Thanks,
Gos

IMR-4227 is #64 on the burn chart and H-4227 is #65 so the IMR is slightly faster but not by much. Contact Hodgdon and they should be able to help you with load data.

Thanks.
I've been to busy for phone calling during working hours, but the first chance I get I'll call Hodgdon and find out what the story is, then post it here.
Thanks again,
Gos

Hello, Gos. I too am a fan of H4227. When I heard they were discontinuing it, I called Hodgdon. They said since they had bought up IMR, they were dropping some powders & 4227 was one. I said I thought their 4227 was a bit better than the IMR version..tech. agreed..in fact he said he would let me in on a secret..even though the new cans say IMR..they are filled with the original H4227. The IMR version was dropped. Now I haven't tried any of the new stuff (stock piled all the H4227 I could while still avail.) so don't know if what he said was true..but sure hope so. Best of luck!

My 357 Maximums says that "new" 4227 is actually H4227 and not IMR4227 regardless of what is on the label. The velocities match H4227 given the same loads. I have enough of the old "metal can" IMR4227 that I can still make comparisons.

I think the old IMR4227 is better than the new H4227 but such is life.

IMR-4227 powder is discontinued. The label name H4227 is discontinued and that powder is renamed IMR 4227. H4227 (now called IMR 4227) is actually ADI's AR2205 and always has been. IMR 4227 has always outsold H4227 and Hodgdon wanted to take advantage of the name. A marketing ploy that borders on deception, imo.
The same situation applies to H4198 and IMR 4198.

I don't think 4198 has made the change. The H4198 MSDS says it is ADI's AR2207. The IMR*4198 MSDS says it can be AR2215, which is not a number marketed directly by ADI in Australia, but just an OEM powder they make. Also, the last container of IMR*4198 I bought said it was from Canada, where the IMR plant is. So, I called Hodgdon and asked and they said the AR2215 is a second source used in some lots, but Canada still makes it, too. That was about a year ago, so if anyone has newer information, please say so.

I've put this list of multi-name powders up before. It reflects the last information I had:
