My New 870 Express what 18" Barrel?

Last week I bought a new 870 express with a 28" remchoke barrel. Synthetic furniture parkerized finish, 4 shot magazine. I think that the installed choke tube is a modified choke but I am not sure, the box says remchoke. Saturday I took it out to the range with a box of 7/8 ounce #7 1/2 shot high velocity loads to pattern it at 25 yards. Most of the shot hit the target, so far so good.

I think the parkerized ventrib, bead sight barrel will be good for trap and hunting (deer with slugs). i may add clamp on williams fire sights for deer season.

I now want to add a smooth bore home defense barrel, the remmington barrels are quite expensive, even on Ebay.

So now I am considering a Mossberg parkerized 18.5" cylinder bore barrel for an 870 this barrel has no rib and a bead sight. that appears to be a good home defense configuration.

Is there any reason I should spend 2X as much for a remmington barrel 21"???? Or will the Mossberg do the job just as well.???

Ok I found the barrel of my dreams at Cabelas, its a 20" rifle sighted IC smooth bore Remington Parkerized barrel for 109.99, 127.56 delivered 2nd day.

The Mossy 18.5" would cost me 108.00 delivered from Cheaper than Dirt.

I would like to see you fit the Mossberg barrel on an 870!

For HD, a bead sight works fine. Try that bbl with slugs for deer, and also try the longer bbl with the Wms setup. One may be much more accurate than the other with the ammo at hand.

Expresses come with Modified tubes. I'd get an IC, Skeet or Cylinder and an IM or Full for the best results.

Good price on either bbl.

Captain, Mossie makes some 870 bbls.

Captain,
Mossberg barrels are a popular 870 replacement as they are usually way cheaper.

MB,
That is a good price for a 20" Rifle-Sited Remington barrel. I use that exact barrel on my 870's and I really like it.
I have an AO Big Dot on one and it is really quite nice.
I try to get mine used for less than 100 clams but those prices are very good for new IMO.
Mike

Thanks Dave and Mike, I had been bidding on a 20" rem barrel on Ebay that was unused. Whne the price went up to $95 I figured that it was time to consider new. I have had no good luck on anything I've ever bidded on on E-bay it always seems that the price approaches the price of a new item without adding shipping.
