Justice, for the most part you are correct, but most of the manufacturers that you listed in the $550-$700 range also offer guns in the $1,000 range as well. If you are talking very base models though, then yes, that is correct, IME.

I did my shopping for AR's pre-panic, but still late summer/early fall 2012. I saw NO AR's less than 650 anywhere. And the ~650s were M&P15 sports.

Maybe that's because I only did inner city LGSs and online shopping, but still.

There were tons of the "sport" versions around for $650 to $699. We had some DPMS sporticals in a CO gunshop running at $599...most of those seem to be selling for north of $1500 now.
