Barrel for 7.62x39 ARR build
Looking at building a 7.62x39 AR, wanting something to run steel cased ammo through. I have several 556 builds all ready and a few spare receiver sets laying around.
Any suggestions on barrels, am leaning towards a 16" middy? Thoughts on these. https://faxonfirearms.com/16-gunner-...ngth-4150-qpq/ https://www.blackriflearms.com/16-76...rel_p_168.html What barrels are you guys running? Thanks. |

Ive used Faxon barrels in 2 of my 556 builds. Im very pleased with the quality and the company is super good to work with. I had lunch with the owner at SHOT show a cpl years ago. Good people.

Not so sure of the advantages with a "middy 7.62" especially using factory ammo. My reason: I feel that this type of ammo uses fairly "quick" powder that may already be at the top of it's performance with a carbine gas system.

It just seems the more respected brands of barrels are using the mid length system, good bad I don't know

With a 223/5.56 barrel the gas volume is confined to a much smaller volume vs a 7.62 bore. Moving the gas port forward is usually advantageous with a .22 bore but may not be with the bigger .30 bore. In addition, the 7.62x39 doesn't have the same chamber pressure as a .223.

I run a 16" heavy contour, mid length gas port, carbine buffer. Runs just fine. Prefers hot reloads and steel case. Upgrade to a heavy duty extractor spring, the stock one with the o ring that came with my bolt wore out fairly quickly.

My BCA 7.62x39 upper on an Anderson lower shoots anything I put in it. I am as happy as I can be with it. My pig gun.
