I like the MINI-14. Mine (the wife's actually) shoots just fine.

Go to Walmart and get a Colt M4 or similar. It would be fine too.

I always say, figure out what you need, then what you want, and then save to get it. $600 rifle today, or $900 rifle in April, the $300 may make a big difference.

I guess the op never specified a price, so the world of .223 rifles lay before him...lol..
A used AR could be a consideration

Every full parts kit i found was sold out when i started looking in mid-october. I'm guessing the election dried up the last remaining "cheap" ARs. I calculated, after i decide on buis for mine, it will have costed about 1150 total (fees, tax, shipping included). But ill be happy because everything on it is exactly what i want.

Edit: Still extremely interesting thread for <$600 AR. Good read

"The Mini-14 I'm eyeballing is the tactical one, but with the synthetic stock as opposed to the pistil grip.

Ruger Cat# M-14/20GBCPC - Model# 5847 - List Price 939 and local store has it on 750 + tax "

check with CDNN. they currently have the 5847 tactical for $599. add in approx $50 for shipping & transfer fees & you will come in at $100 under the local price. i was set to pull the trigger on one of these from CDNN until i ran across one n.i.b. on gunbroker & got it for $550 shipped

H&K 630 if you can find one. Very accurate and easy to carry. I have three .223s: an AR-15 varmint, H&K 630 and CZ 527. I do a lot of coyote hunting. The AR sits in the safe, while the H&K 630 is used the most.
