Need help disassembling Remington 522 Viper magazine

The magazine I have for my Remington 522 works fine, however it has gotten a little dirty with use, I'd say at least 250 rounds have been put through it. It works fine, it's just a little rough with all of the residue sitting inside it. My problem is, I can't seem to figure out how to disassemble the magazine, so I can clean it. With the average magazine, there's a button on the floorplate to allow it to be removed, however there is no such button. How should I disassemble the magazine, if I can?

First off, a good rule is, "if it ain't broke, don't FIX it!"

If the mag is metal, there are spray /dunk cleaners that will flush it out. If its plastic, these cleaners might eat it! Beware...

There are many magazine designs that do NOT have removable floorplates.

The 1911 is one.

For those without removable floorplates, the usual method of disassembly is simple, BUT takes a little care.

Look at your mag body, odds are there is a hole in it (maybe several).
THis is how you take it apart...

find the hole, (use a lower one if there are several), and then compress the spring by pushing down on the mag follower. Push it down a ways, THEN put a pin (punch, old nail, etc.) through the hole, then ease up on the follower.

With the spring held down by the pin, the follower can be "wiggled" out of the magazine. THEN turn the mag upside down (feed lips down on a fixed surface) and pull the pin. (hold the mag body while you do this, or chase parts afterwards )
with the spring released, it can be removed from the mag body.

Then you can clean it all.

Re-assembly is a little trickier, you will need to find something that you can compress the spring with, in order to re-capture it, but other than that, its just reverse order. Capture the spring, re-install the follower, then release the spring.

Do take note of the position of the spring BEFORE you remove it from the mag body. There are designs where the spring could be put back in backwards or upside down, (or both!) and doing that may not allow normal function!!

Hope this helps.

Suggest that you use a fine file to smooth down the sides of the lip of the magazine guide to allow easier guidance of the magazine when loading into the magazine well.

Given how hard it is to find A. a 522 Viper mag that actually works, and
B. finding spare mags in the first place...be real careful with the one you have!

Going by what .44 AMP said, there is no physical way I can extract the follower from the top of the magazine. There is a thumb-hold on the follower which allows for ease of use on loading the magazine, and there is metal between it and the top of the magazine. There are slight bumps on the floorplate which friction locks the floorplate with the magazine body, it just takes a slight tap from something with some mass (I think I used some pliers to knock it loose) to disengage said friction lock. It didn't take much to clean the magazine body, just a folded up a patch with some gun oil, held with some needle-nose pliers and grabbed all of the gunk.

Quick image attachment, on a Tweet. Kinda hard to resize a 5K resolution image down to under 244KB
