Lite Shotgun Shells
I need a source for .410 shotgun shells that have #7 1/2 or 8 shot, 1/2 OZ of shot or less, and 850 FPS to 900 FPS muzzel velosity. This is to teach a 6 year old to shoot Cowboy Action. I am not a reloader and know very little about balistics. Any ideas out there?

You're going to have problems finding ammo at less than 1100fps.
Consider controlling recoil by other means. |

Greetings Ragtown, and welcome aboard.
You may need to start reloading or get in touch with a custom reloader. If your 6-year old can't handle the recoil of standard .410-bore target loads, then you might look into rim-fire, or pistol caliber "snake" loads. Or, as Buzzcook mentioned, reduce recoil by other means (my heavy comp O/U with a JS recoil reducer makes .410s kick like an air rifle). |

There is no recipe ....in the Hodgdon reloading manuals ...for a .410 load...using 2 1/2" hulls - that is less than 1200 fps ...../ and I can't say that I've ever seen a commercial shell in .410 at less than 1200 fps ...
...there are some loads in the book for 3" hulls - at 1100 fps and 1135 fps ...using 11/16 oz of shot ... but a 1/16 oz less of shot ...and 100 fps less on velocity ...is going to give you a little reduction in recoil ...but probably not enough to matter. Adding 1/2 lb to the gun ...if the child can handle the extra weight / which for a 6 yr old ..unless they are really big for their age is asking a lot .../ but 1/2 lb in gross weight on the gun will reduce recoil by about 10% ... |

Closest you'll find to what you are asking for are available but hard to find and a bit spendy. The only thing I know of in the US is Gamebore "Traditional British" 2" 410 shells loaded with 5/16 oz. shot at 1330 fps.
One of the few places that have it is: Source If you look around a bit you might find another source or two. |

winchester black box is what you need. I shoot them in skeet and on quail. 10 bucks or so at bass pro locally.
