Just wondering if anyone has any opinions. They are beautiful pistols.

Yes, the MK IIs and IIIs are. Older ones with the "humped" feedramp are iffy without modification.
Here's a good link: http://www.hipowersandhandguns.com/9...eliability.htm |

Yes, as stated before, the Mark IIs and IIIs are good to go. The ones I had were as reliable as any Glock or Beretta and feel better in your hand too.

I've owned a total of 13 HP's (currently have 10) with manufacturing dates spanning 5 decades, and in all honesty, I cannot remember having a single malfunction with any of them. Wish I could say that about my 1911"s.

The older ones can be picky about which JHPs they'll feed, like a lot of other pistols from that era.
New ones have zero issues. |

Thank you for the feeback.
So why aren't they more popular? The CZ 75 seems similar (same calbers, can be carried C&L), but seem far more popular. |

I was also wondering if caliber makes a difference?

I don't have any sales figures to back this up, but I know more people that currently have a HP than have a CZ75. I'd guess CZ is probably outselling the HP right now. The CZ75 is a very good gun at a very reasonable price. HP is a very good gun at a usually much higher price.
As far as caliber, I have never shot the .40 HP, but have read accounts of people who said it just didn't "feel as good" as the 9mm. I'd be very curious to shoot one and form my own opinion though. As Somerled mentioned there is lots of good reading on http://www.hipowersandhandguns.com/, including a comparison of the CZ75 and HP. Be careful though, read that sight and you will probably buy one, and if you do you likely wont regret it. |
