Poor Bubba'd 1911 Colt Series 70
Ok. So what cerakote should I do? A two-tone black and grey? Or all black?

Two tone is my first choice. All black gets boring, but with the right accent parts, it also is cool.

I feel like I should ask which gunsmith I should be avoiding.

I vote for the two-tone. I just read through this, I am sorry you had so many issues. I really hope this guy can un-bubba your Colt.

I was thinking the same thing. I know you said the shop you went to canned his sorry self, but I'd guess that he's trying to get hired elsewhere in the area and the folks in that area would like to avoid him.

I'm also interested because I had a guy botch a front sight job on my Mini-14 and I'm wondering if it's the same fellow.

Poor Bubba'd 1911 Colt Series 70
Met up with the smith in his cool little shop. It's there now and we spoke about what's going to happen to it as far as repairs and such. I need to buy bushings and new screws, because bubba ruined those too.
I hope it doesn't need another brand new beaver tail I need help though...from you my brothers. Cerakote. He has all the colors. What should I do? I'm thinking two-tone. Maybe a black frame with a silver or sniper grey slide? And a silver or sniper grey trigger, hammer, and safeties. ? I don't know! Please post some ideas for me. I would greatly appreciate it. |

This is some Roberts work. I really think in going to go with the first picture. Something like that. What do you all think? Any other ideas? |

Thats good to hear that he's gonna take care of the Colt. I say pic one. What about something like this
http://www.kimberamerica.com/1911/ec...eclipse-pro-ii or http://www.kimberamerica.com/1911/ma...r-carry-custom for a different take on two-tone. Either way I am sure its gonna feel like a new pistol.

Yeah...I like the first one too. Think I'm going to go with that.
As for the Kimber Eclipse style? I don't know....It's cerakote. Maybe if I was doing a stainless and whatever finish they used to do the black. |

Given that it's going to be a range gun in Miami, #3 might not be a bad choice. (I can imagine that a dark gun gets pretty hot if left in the trunk of a car in August.) However, I'd go with different grips. TBH, I'm not a huge fan of any of the three. They may be very well done, but none of them really makes me go "oooooh." Let's bear in mind, though, that I might not be the right guy to ask about aesthetics. I like my pistols matte, with some nice, sexy holter wear. "Well loved" is how I think of them. It's also not my money, and not my pistol.

Ha! Spats...that's always been my original mode of thought. Until I was given the option for two tone. I thought about it. You're right. Already have a flashy 1911 Gold Cup.
I think I may make this one look like a ninja like my last 1911 project. Oh! Also, have you guys seen the "burnt bronze" cerakote? I also have half a mind to mix that with black. O_O let me try and find a pic. Here's a quick Google search actually |

The burnt bronze does kinda tickle my fancy! There's one here (upper right of the collection of smaller pictures at the bottom) that I really like. Looks like burnt bronze with a black slide. As far as 2-tones go, it's purty!

I’d keep the pistol all stainless. IMO all black finishes on the receiver will wear like that of watches that have a black finish. And once it wears it will look fugly if not worse than a worn blued pistol. The only two-tone IMO that makes sense is a dark slide and lighter color receiver. Looking down a dark ramp just seems more natural I think. Besides the bluing of the slide will really last because it’s not handled nearly as much as the receiver.

915A & Kevin! Hell yeah!!!! I'm going for it, with black accents. When he contacts me about the repair first I'll tell him that's what I want done. Reminded me of the SIG Spartan too.
745SW...It's a satin nickel now, which is what I intended to keep it as when I bought the gun. Then after the cut on the frame to add the beaver tail. I realized I need to refinish it. Don't want bare metal on the gun. |

Poor Bubba'd 1911 Colt Series 70
UPDATE!!!
I'm going to pick up my Colt soon. It's all done. Now. Some of you..actually most of you aren't going to like it. But I love it figured might as well do this to a Colt than to a RIA or something. Some see I should have done it the other way. Oh well different folks huh? enjoy Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 2 |
