Question about mounting a red dot on an SAR1

Folks, I have a friend who has an SAR-1. He currently uses it with a POSP scope, but was wondering about a good red dot. He doesn't want to buy an EOTECH or aimpoint, but something a little bit less expensive. This is his question - The SAR-1 has a side rail mount, which works great for the POSP. I told him that a lot of folks seem to use an Ultimak mount of some sort, which, I guess installs around the gas tube? This is something that I don't know much about, and was wondering if you all suggested a rear mount of some sort for a red dot scope, fitting onto the existing SAR-1 side rail, or is it worth the extra mullah to spring for the Ultimak mount (how much do these cost, anyway, and do they fit on an SAR-1?) and mount some sort of a red dot scope closer to the muzzle?

Thanks so much in advance for your advice!
