Just picked up a 15-3 that has a 6 inch target barrel on it. Trying to figure out if it was issued from the factory that way (which would be unusual) or if the barrel came later.
Serial number is 3K378xx. I’d also like to know the date of manufacture if possible. Thanks! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Howdy Jim, I just got a 4" S&W 38 special ctg from my dad. Looking to get any info you had on SN *C839617*
I ended up here looking for new grips and needed to find out what frame I had i.e. K, J, etc. Also, do you know what CTG represents? |

For Post 8309, here's what I found:
1966-1967 C810533-C999999 C Serial Prefix approximate dates Models: 10, 11, 12, 45, Aircrewman, and their pre-model variations Supica, Jim,Nahas, Richard. Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson (Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson) (Kindle Locations 16957-16958). F+W Media. Kindle Edition. "CTG" is merely an abbreviation of the word "cartridge". Sorry, I just saw the question was to someone named "Jim". Disregard this info if necessary as I'm not "Jim".

I just got an M28-2 S/N N204410. There is also the number "14" with two horizontal lines to the left of the number.
I hope to learn the age of the pistol and whether the extra marking means anything. Thank you in advance! Ed |

N100000 1973
N200000 1974-1977 * N300000 1975-1976 Supica, Jim,Nahas, Richard. Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson (Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson) (Kindle Locations 16856-16858). F+W Media. Kindle Edition. The subject M28-2 in post 8312 was made sometime between 74' and '77. I've no idea what the other markings mean.

Here is one for you. Model 10-6 serial # 3D09xxx stamped JP1304 in front of trigger guard C.A.I. import. I read somewhere that JP stands for Justice of the Peace and badge number. A British Commonwealth duty revolver.

Thank you, Jim. 1978-same year as my daughter and my Harley Shovelhead were born. A very good year!

Question; I just picked up a snub .38 SS, S&W 60, #R319xxx, what year was it manufactured? Anyone know?? Thanks in advance!!! Non- pinned barrel, no dash model 60, so I'm guessing post 1982. Correct?
Oh, +P rated or not??? Thing is mint, locks up tight as a banker, looks like it was shot a few times, never cleaned, then carried in a belt holster judging from the dings on the bottom of the right grip panel and slight wear on the wood finish. I'm guessing it was a Detective or undercover officer's gun. Just grabbed it today as soon as I saw it as I knew it wouldn't last long at the KTP gun counter. .38 ammo was sold out, but when I asked the clerk to check behind the counter as I was buying the revolver, he came back with a box of American Eagle 158 grain round nose lead .38's ... for $25! I was pretty happy with that. Last edited by shurshot; September 12, 2021 at 03:48 PM. |

While it is not rated for +p by S&W, it is an all steel gun and will handle +p just fine. |
