The book shows CBA thru CBD as 1996, then CBN as 1997. So, somewhere between them.

Production dates desired

I own two S & W hand guns and would like to find out what there productions dates are.

1. A 357/38 mod 66-1 revolver with the following numbers.

109K713 with 215X6 below that.

2. A 41 mag model 57 with the following numbers

14X74 and A4 below that.

I know from reading numerous posts in this section that there is a publication showing numbers and dates but I plan on selling the S & W's that I have so I have no need to purchase the publication.

So, any help on the productions dates for these two guns would be very much appreciated.

Thanks for your help with this.

109K713 would be the serial number and = 1981.
The numbers for the model 57 are assembly numbers. Get the serial number from the underside on the grip frame. It will likely have a S or N prefix. If you have target grips you will need to remove them to see it.

Good morning everybody. I want to thank in advance everybody who is posting replies for people requesting year/dates for their firearm (especially since I'm asking). I'm not a collector or anything but am selling a S&W for a friend, otherwise I'd buy the book. Could someone give me an idea of a revolver with the serial number of 488xxx. If you have any info to pass that would be good, I don't even know the type so I can't look up specifics on line.

Anything you could pass on to help would be greatly appreciated.

S&W reused the same serial numbers across different models over the years. To get a date I would need to know what model it is.
What is it chambered in? 38 special, 38 S&W, 22, 357 etc.
Is it a 5 or 6 shot?
Is it a modern swing out cylinder or an older tilt barrel to load/unload?

This is .38 special. 6 shot. modern cylinder. The number 41971 is stamped on the crane (I think that's what it is called) and the number 488174 is stamped on the cylinder.

Here's a picture.

Picture helps! It's a .38 Military & Police, Model of 1905, 4th Change. Serial number dates it to mid 1920's. It appears to be in really good condition.
The 42971 is an assembly number. While most manufacturers call it the crane, S&W calls it a yoke.

ABN = 1983.
1K36xx = 1970.
76K = 1980.

Thanks for the help. I am puzzled though. In searching the net a bit I'm not seeing any of that model with the finish this one has (from other photos I'm going to say this is parkerized).

Any thoughts?

You know, I should have caught that too. I noticed the parkerized finish and lanyard loop which along with the grips makes it look like a WWII "Victory" model. So, there are two possibilities. It has been refinished or there is a V prefix with that serial number.
On the underside of the grip frame see if there is "V". It might be on the opposite side of the lanyard swivel from the serial numbers. If there is a V prefix then it's "Victory" model made around 1943/44 for the war effort.

Serial numbers ran from 295000 in 1962 to 786544 in 1969.
