Buckmark - 7 inch barrel options
So I would like to try a 7.25" barrel on my Buckmark.
However, affordable options are kinda rare. Browning has "obsoleted" all the bull barrels. They still sell the Contour barrel, but I don't feel like buying a $90 full length rail on top of the cost of the barrel. I currently use one of the Tacsol picatinny rails and a red dot. Here is the question. Does anyone know if it's possible to use the same short TacSol rail with the contour barrel? I know it might look a little silly, and there would be an unused screw hole in the barrel over by the muzzle, but is the screw hole over the chamber in the same position it's in on the "normal" Buckmark barrels? |

The basic top strap picatinny rail will work with nearly all Buckmark barrels.

So as far as you know the Contour barrel's first screw hole is in the same position as all the others?
I'd ask Browning but they for sure are going to discourage any deviation from "as designed" and I'd probably not get an answer. |

I have an '80s Buckmark "Standard", a '90s Buckmark "Target", a 2003 Buckmark "Camper" (contour barrel), and a Buckmark Challenger III.
My "contour" barrel fits all of the other top straps, including a TacSol rail that is installed on that pistol.

Watch for the Hunter varient too.
Buckmarks get frequent rebates. Hunter is 350 on gun.deals. With rebate you could be not that far off from just a new gun?

Used ones with a lot of finish wear often go cheap on Gunbroker.
And keeping an eye out for special cases can be beneficial. I snagged that Challenger III for $150, because it was covered in fuzzy rust and listed as "unknown Buckmark model". It cleaned up just fine. It was just flash rust from transport and storage. (It was a police seizure.) I also picked up that "Camper" for only $20, because it was missing the slide and top strap. I found a TacSol rail w/ sight for a good price, and spent a few weeks waiting for a cheap but complete slide (of the correct type) to show up on eBay. I'm into the pistol for about $150.
