Is it time to quit and sell mt gun?

Last year I bought a Smith & Wesson 929. It's a great gun and I've had lots of fun shooting it and enhancing it. But I've spent the year shooting Steel Challenge Matches with it and just can't seem to get into it.

Since I'm in a wheelchair I had to give up the "Run & Gun" matches like ICORE and USPSA. The ranges here all have rocks on them and I can't move the wheelchair across the stages. I had a caregiver that use to push me around but she's gone.

I'm very competitive by nature. Years ago I was a Master Class shooter with both my revolver and auto. Now I'm lucky to not come in last.

I no longer enjoy reloading and especially de mooning and mooning my bullets for each match.

I'm thinking of getting rid of my 929 and just shoot my .22 Mark III or my 627. I can still buy .22s cheap. Not as cheap as reloading but not too bad.

So, is it time to just sell my 929 and learn to shoot the .22s and enjoy myself again?

Yes, absolutely.
If you're not having fun with what you're doing, do something else.
Life is too short to waste it doing the disagreeable.
I've never even been tempted to do steel challenge matches with anything other than rimfires.
The same with silhouette matches.

I, too, have had to give up on the run'n'gun matches.
Nothing lasts forever.
There's lots of other stuff to enjoy.

What about a motorized wheel chair?
Some of the members of our local archery club zip around the field matches pretty good with them.
And over mostly rough ground, too.

I'd agree that some form of .22 is a good idea.

Might also look at a PCC in 9mm.

The potential of mixing it up might appeal to you as well.

I quit a long time ago for several reasons.
Partly because of age, but the main reason is that most of the competitions anymore are not true competitions but instead promote and reward mediocrity.

The only caveat is that if you wanted to buy it back, I would sell it back to you at the same price you sell it for, at any time.

Shame your range cant get things smoothed out for easy rolling. As far a selling it, only you can answer that of course. You could just set her aside for a good while and ponder on it. Personally I never like to sell a gun because I've done it and still regret it.

I am in the same boat. I have shot 3 gun bullseye for many years and now only shoot 22 matches in senior division.
I have 3 Colt 45's and 2 Smith 52's I just can't come to selling them even though I haven't shot them in years.
I'm have a tough time with my decision, I do wish you the best of luck with your division.

Look into the CMP Games.

Most think they are for vintage military rifles, but they also have several different pistol matches, including 22 RF.

Also very "wheelchair" friendly.

There are many stages in a ICORE match that are box shooting and as a ICORE match director I don't consider ICORE as a run and gun discipline. Movement yes but not flat out run and gun. If possible why not ask match directors if putting plywood down to accommodate you for trying to shoot a match. Not at all out of the question nor an unreasonable request. A you tube search will show wheel chair shooters at matches
