barrel difference

I want to replace the barrel on my colt comander that I have had since the early 70's. Will a 80 series barrel fit? I know there will be some fitting involved but I am sure that I can do this. On Colt's website they have a barrel listed as a 80's series barrel and Midway has a Colt barrel listed just as a comander barrel. I thought that the difference between a 70's series and a 80 series pistol was the fire control group. Can someone fill me in or does midway have a tech. dept.

I think you're right, but can't say 100% for sure. I don't even think you'll need to do any hand fitting. A barrel should be a drop in replacement.

I believe that the series 70 barrel bushing for the Colt Commander was a standard solid type. Whereas the full size series 70 .45 used a collet bushing and a special profile barrel that was relived behind the collet bushing. If that be the case (colt commanders using solid bushings), it would not matter if the barrel was a series 70 or series 80.

Yes, it will fit. I have a Colt Combat Commander I bought brand new in 1978, and I know a Series 80 barrel will fit.
