practice load/45 auto

Looking for a "lite" practice load for my
springfield auto. Using either 230gr or 200
gr round nose(lead) which gives the best
accuracy 230 gr or does the smaller wt's do
best. also will the semi-wadcutters feed
in the auto's and how does there accuracy
compare to the round nose.???

If everything is righteous, a 1911-type pistol will dang near feed empty brass.

I used to load 5.8 grains of 231 behind a 200-grain SWC as my IPSC load. You could go down to maybe 4.5 or 5.0 grains for a lesser recoil; whatever lets the gun cycle unless you want to change to a lighter spring.

Can't help on the comparative accuracy; I never worried about super-tight groups.

I have found that the following load is quite accurate in my fullsize Springfield "Loaded" 1911:

4.9grains of Bullseye behind a 200gr Rainier SWC or 200 gr Rainier flat point.

or

5.7 grains of Unique behind the 200gr Rainier Flat point or flat point.

The accuracy between the SWC and flat point is about the same for me in this gun.

My Springfield feeds both without a hitch.

Here's what works in my two Kimbers.
4.4 - 4.6 gr. Titegroup
200 gr. Magnus SWC
1.260" OAL
800 fps.
Win. or Federal primers
Sub 1" groups @ 25 yds.

I've noticed that, in general, the most accurate 45 loads use W231 or Bullseye.

My most accurate load is 5.0 grs of Win231 behind a 230 gr. RN lead bullet. OAL 1.26"...

5grs-231,works real well for me,with any weight bullit.

3.8 gr Bullseye
4.0 gr 700-X
You might have to go to a lighter recoil spring, but those are cheap and easy to change.

Either 5.3 grains of 231 using a 230 gr RN lead bullet, or 7.5 grains of Accurate #5 over the same bullet. Velocity is around 750 fps for each load. I just like the #5 powder better because it's finer, and measures more evenly from my powder dispenser.

Here's another vote for Bullseye. I use 4.5 grains with a 200 grain LSWC cast Silver Bullet.

Gives good to great accuracy in a Ruger Blackhawk convertable, S&W 625, and two different Colt 1911 pistols.

Seems to work well in anything I use it in.
