Not to be a party pooper, but I have a 2x3 foot window in my front door.
Don't use the poop hole - wait that's another thread. Some folks need some meds in these threads. There is reasonable situational awareness and then there are folks having Obsessive Ninja Disorder or Internet Posturing Disorder.

My peep hole (not to be confused with the one listed above) is practically useless. Either I need to replace it with a better one or get more light on the porch. I need to develop a better tactic of checking who is at the door, my entry way is not set up too well for that. The frame and wall around the door wouldn't really hold up to a good kick. I've considered reinforcing it. Also thought about a CCTV camera and hook it up to my computer. My nephew showed me a pretty nice set up at his house. I think there should be a degree of caution for anyone. I have shady elements in my neighborhood not to mention bored teenagers breaking into homes. So I need to come up with a solution to checking who is out there. |

Camera, that's all you need...they are cheap and reliable
A nice idea that I saw was a friend that drilled a hole in his floor right by the door, on the handle side. when he got home from work he dropped a 1" diameter steel pipe 36" long in the hole and it effectively blocked the door from opening more than an inch. Even if they started to kick the door they would have to shred the door before they could get in the house. The entire hole was reinforced from below with wood 2" by 12's so the hole was effectively in a solid piece of wood.

So now we should be afraid to look out of our peephole? Why bother living at all?? We can take to living in a cave like the terrorists do, they at least have reason to be afraid of everything. Pass the valium....

Peepholes. To look, or not to look. That is the question.
No other question, just that. Either look... or don't look. And yet... this got 30 replies??? I'd say this one's been asked, and answered . C'mon folks, are there no serious tactics and training issues we can discuss here? Are there none left, that we have to resort to peepholes? Try a little harder.... please! Closed.
