230 gr. .451 Rainier bullets

Anyone reloading 45ACP with these plated bullets Rainier 230gr. FMJ using only for target shooting , ordered 500 from MidwayUSA today. My 45 has CT Laser grips , having fun being able to point an shoot with the laser , bullet hits where the dot is . Enables you to see what your doing wrong . The Rainier bullets are a few dollars cheaper per 100 from the Winchester bullets I am shooting now .

Just remember they are a little softer than jacketed bullets. I would be running something like 4.8 grains of Bullseye with them.

Not 230gr but I've loaded a pile of the 200gr Ranier bullets. Bought 2 500 rd boxes, had no problems and I like 'em! I also got 2 500 boxes of 115gr 9mm and had same good, consistent results.

I load on the low side in most cases , as long as it doesn't effect the slide. Using Win 231powder my load was 4.7gr., 230gr .451 Winchester FMJ bullets . OAL 1.255 worked pretty good . Have a little Bullseye left , my records show 4.7 to 5.0 with the Win.bullets . As always thanks for answering. Chrs

Read the reviews on the bullets , seemed pretty good , worth a try . Will have them in a few days , I load up some an give them a try after Thanksgiving. Ordered 500 , my 45 seems to function with out any problems , everything I feed it so far from HP to FMJ. Thank for getting back to me. Chris

I've loaded many of rounds with Rainier bullets, never had an issue. I like them.

Thanks for answering , I'm sure the'll be fine . Not looking for super accurate bullets , I have laser grips on a Colt New Agent , first time shooting a firearm with a laser. I practice point shooting at 21' the bullet hits the red dot , easy to hit the target pretty fast . Can go through ammo pretty fast too . Ordered 500 230gr RN , I have the brass primed , belled an ready to load. Thanks again , Chris

I have shot them also, plus a lot of Berry's, xTreme etc. They all shoot fine.
My go to load was always 4.5 to 4.8 Bullseye but it is rather dirty.
My next experiment will be with BE86.
Reloading is fun and we get to shoot more.

A plated bullet is not an FMJ. And are not loaded using jacketed bullet data. They use cast bullet data. 4.5 grains of Bullseye is a nice cast bullet target load.

Thanks for the info on plated bullet data , could a plated bullet be listed as ( Full Metal Jacket ) FMJ an still be plated ? I've been shooting Winchester 230gr. .451 FMJ at the base of the bullet its not completely covered there is lead exposed , would that still be a FMJ bullet ? Thanks again , Chris
