current project:
Gunsmith told me action was good but needed new stock. Not original and nonmatching. Anyway, do have (don't bash) an ATI replacement stock but it is not fitting. Is this large ring? The largest part of the bold does not want to fit? |

I'm not certain whether I am proud enough of my mauser to take a picture of it or not... it's a mix master M41B swedish sniper without the scope and rail.

Mausers
BigJim3, I have attached two photos of my father's sporterized 8x57 Mauser, which I inherited, a few years ago. Dad was a constabulary officer in Heidelberg, Germany, 1946 to 1949. In 1947, he "liberated" as he describes it two 98s. He had a German gunsmith sporterize both. One had a Mannlicher style stock and the other is in the attached photo. Later, he traded the other Mauser. As you can see, I have the original Hensoldt scope and the its leather carry case. I have the original leather sling but replaced it with another to avoid the original breaking while carrying the gun on my shoulder. I don't hunt with it.
My photo is larger than this message will accept. Any suggestions on how to make it fit? |

Mauser
I figured out how to reduce the size of the photograph so here is a photo of my father's sporterized 98, which was done in 1947.

OK. Just remember you asked for it. I am something of a Mauser freak. Have more than I need but not nearly as many as i want.
Russian capture K98 with all German markings intact. "Mystery Mauser" (how distributor described them back in the 1980s). "Scrubbed" Yugo with no maker's stampings. Some 3,000 built in 1955 for the Israelis to use in clandestine operations but delivery interrupted. Sold on the used market. European style sporter built from military BRNO 98. I like BRNOs. You'll see. I built this a few years ago. Folding leaf "express sight," laminated stock. A little different. I made this from a commercial CZ action. Very traditional looking sporter. Paid through the nose to have this imported from a Canadian dealer during the embargo of the 1980s. Continued nest post... |

Continued...
Told you I have a thing for BRNOs.
Ditto... Recent acquisition. Damn thing has shot 1/2" groups at 100 yards with MilSpec ammo. This one is cute. I'm tired now... |

My Mom bought this rifle for my Dad in 1963 for $12. It was the first gun I ever fired. About 30 years ago when I was younger and much more foolish, I took the hacksaw to it. Yes I regret it , but what's done is done. Just recently drug it out and bought a Boyd's stock for it. Working on the stock and will be bedding the action.
