i own both
I have had the 9c almost a year and I love it.
best score in IDPA was with this one, better than with an XDm with 5.25 barrel and adjustable sights. I have only had the shield a couple of weeks but it is different. Trigger and grip are not alot different but noticeable. The shield does conceal better, it is more comfortable at 5 o'clock when riding. So for me, it's 9c in winter dress and shield in summer. Very happy with both.

9c and large mags
I believe you have to buy an extension so it will hold the 18 round mags.
Check at s&w website but I think the 9c can take the full mags. As mentioned above, the shield is single stack so no extensions.

Full-size M&P mags will lock into a compact and function perfectly, but the mag body will project from the bottom of the grip frame.
If the gap bothers you, aftermarket companies offer sleeve-style rubber adapters to fill the gap; Google "X-grip magazine adapter". M&P compact mags are too short to lock into the full-size pistols. The M&P Shield takes a completely different type of magazine from the rest of the M&P lineup. They are not cross-compatible. Also, the .40S&W and .357Sig magazines are the same, but the 9mm and .45ACP magazines are different, and are caliber-specific.

Shield trigger is MUCH better. It's a nice trigger.
M&P full size/compact triggers become acceptable with use, but they aren't great. Last edited by breakingcontact; February 8, 2013 at 01:58 AM. |

I have the 9C, and waiting to get a Shield.... like many.
I love my 9C! I haven't shot a Shield but I did get to play around with the blue plastic model S&W gives to dealers. The thinness is what I really like compared to my 9C for cc. And it felt fantastic in my hand. Looking forward to owning one. |

Do you think S&W will eventually make a shield w/o the manual safety?

I think that before that even becomes a glimmer of reality, they have to catch up with demand for the Shield as is. And they are nowhere near that for the upcoming year....

The safety is really recessed into the frame. It catches my thumb just right to sweep it off. Would be next to impossible to click it "on" unintentionally. |

The trigger between the M&P*c is a double action type trigger. The shield is a short reset trigger like whats in some of the full size m&p pistol. Go to s&w site and compair models as to the difference's. Even then only thangs that the same is styling. Everthing else is different.
