Zastava 22-250
Looking for a new Zastava M70 in 22-250. LGS can't get one. Can't even find any for sale online.
Do they not sell them in the US? |

Does it have to be a new Zastava? If not there are two Mark X rifles on gunbroker.com. Interarms was the importer of the Zastava rifles under Mark X name. Then it was Charles Daly, and the Remington as a Rem 798 and 799.

And the MSRP for new on Zastava's website isn't much more than what they fetch on gun broker used. I just want a halfway affordable CRF 22-250. Winchester and Zastava are about the only two options I have found and the Winchester costs double. And there is just something about the original 98 action that I like. |

bargain
Until the spike in all shooting related expenses, I've always thought the Mark X rifles were a real bargain and little known by many folks. The two in my assortment are good shooters.

The problem with the Zastava LK M70 is the importers aren't importing them. That tells you that they probably don't sell well enough in the first place to keep importing them. So if they're unobtainable it doesn't matter what the MSRP is listed at. So with limited options for what you want you'll either have to take a risk on a used rifle, or buy a new Winchester, Ruger, or possibly a NOS CZ550 to get CRF. The other option is to ditch wanting CRF and buy a new Ruger, Savage, or Howa for half the price or less than a new CRF .22-250 to stay in budget.

Yes, I can borrow my brother's fancy bore scope whenever I need to.
I have a Savage Axis 22-250. Cheap. Deadly accurate. Zero complaints. Would highly recommend to anyone for a varmint "truck gun". But I have more than one truck so I need another 22-250. I really like Mauser 98 actions for some reason. So why not a 98 action in 22-250? The Winchester is obviously a Mauser descendant, but I like a true Mauser action even more. |

Don't shoot the messenger. If you really have to have a M98 or other CRF rifle in .22-250, go for it. It just isn't going to happen for under $800 MSRP more than likely.
I'm just saying if you want a CRF rifle on a Mauser 98 action in .22-250 you're going to have to buy used or build one. If you just want CRF .22-250 then besides Winchester, Ruger is your next best option right now. A Winchester or Ruger will be more budget friendly than buying a rifle to rebarrel. If you have a Mauser action to use you could rebarrel that to .22-250 for around $1000. None of the distributors for Zastava listed a single LK M70 bolt action sporting rifle, the closest thing they listed was a mini action 7.62X39 but were all out of stock. So if you want a Zastava your local gunshop will have to call and see what it would cost to import one. My guess is they'll have to order a certain amount of products (more than one) to get a distributor to order in the rifle you want. It has to be worthwhile to import the rifle you want.
